Non Brad explains that even if you have a valid green card, being outside the United States for more than five years is considered abandoning your permanent residence. If you try to re-enter the U.S. after such a long absence, immigration officials at the airport can charge you as a lawful permanent resident who has abandoned their residence. You could be: 1️⃣ Paroled into the U.S. to appear before an immigration judge, who may order your deportation. 2️⃣ Found inadmissible if you admit to abandoning your residence, and returned to your home country. If you have a valid visitor’s visa, you may be allowed to enter as a visitor, but you will no longer hold lawful permanent resident status. #GreenCardAbandonment #ImmigrationLaw #BradBernstein #SparBernstein #yourwelcome #fyp #GreenCard #ImmigrationTips #LawfulResidence

Isn’t that the same as over 1 year ?
Is there a duration that you have to stay in the US every year ?!

Is there some five-year-rule or law Because it's my understanding that you have to stay in the United States for more than 6 months per year every year then you have abandoned your green card.

Good to know that info. How long can I stay out of the United States as a green card holder? Will the immigration officer hassle me if I can prove that I was out seeking surgery and recuperation abroad. I have been out of the states over 9 months. Thank you...

This is not true!
My sister left the country for almost 20 years and came back with her green card without any problem. She lent her social security number to others and is now collecting retirement on Guatemala and here.
