It is time for the newest instalment in that beloved cinematic automotive YouTube experience where we film practical cars that can be bought for less than £1,000 in a manner befitting of their inexpensive value! This may go horribly wrong...

This time, as we test a 2007 Fiat Grande Punto 1.2 Active (which would later become the Punto Evo and later just the Punto Mark III), we discover the infamous "City" button, deal with terrible wind noise, avoid discussing the Twinair and Multiair variants, wonder what equipment we are missing on this base model, try (and fail) to skip over the subject of dents and drone on about very little of any importance at all. Nothing untoward, then...

As an independent vehicle consultant, I take potential buyers through the whole car buying process from choosing a make and model to a vehicle handover and road tax. In addition to information on this service, I also have a selection of written and video reviews of cars that I have owned, hired, borrowed or have somehow come into my possession. Please use the Contact Me page on my website to get in touch, visit my Facebook page for latest updates and share this video if you like it! Thank you for watching.

Funny as I saw this I spotted a current Ford Focus parked in from of this Fiat! It does look like a Ford Focus. I love the colour! Interesting dash and instrumentation!
Thank you for the review of this particular Fiat Grand Punto!

I had one of these on a long rental in about 2007 in that exact colour. It wasn't the best and I vividly remember the gear stick coming off in my hand while driving down the A34.

It's a lovely looking car.
As a side note, I have just started to watch the video and when I realised you were in West Kirby I was delighted, having lived in Liverpool before, and having worked on the Wirral. I have not been there for years.
Sorry, it was a bit off the subject matter, but it pleased me :-).

Seen one of these up close! A volunteer at the community centre has one! Probably very expensive in New Zealand, but beautifully made! Did not know that the bloke who designed the DeLorean and the Passat penned this! Thanks for the interesting information!

Good review again sir, yes the Punto has always been a good value car I think, I’ve had a mk1 Punto that had been well looked after and it’s still on the road today in the new owners hands.
Electrical gremlins can and do surface in Fiats, the engines are good, quite revvy and “fizzy” as some people say.
Parts can be quite expensive though for most italian cars and Fiats are no exception, so it’s a good job we have EBay and car breakers.
I hadn’t realised the Grande Punto was associated with the Corsa D, that’s interesting.

I've been lucky enough to own a 2008 Grande Punto Eleganza 1.4 8v for nearly 8 years now, and I still absolutely love it. I'd wanted a Grande ever since I saw the review in Top Gear magazine back in 2005, when I was 15, and it really hasn't disappointed. I still love that fantastic styling, I love bombing around in it still, and the Eleganza specification is perfect for my preferences. They are surprisingly good on a longer journey: last year, I went from Suffolk to Cardiff and back again a couple of days later, and the car didn't miss a beat, and even carrying 3 adults and our luggage for the weekend, and with the aircon on the whole time, it still returned 47.5mpg! Given that the Eleganza is 1 of the less common variants, plus the fact that it's still an excellent means of getting around, I'm determined to keep it as long as I can. 🙂

Great review sir. I need small city car and i really like Grande Putno especially design. But for months I can't decide which car to take Grande Punto or Corsa D. People say that it is basically the same car, the same platform, the same suspension, gearbox, etc, and that the only difference is that the Corsa D has better quality materials in the interior. In terms of reliability there are more or less the same. I I really like the look of both but I can't decide which one to take.

When these first came out I really liked the front end and was a bit disappointed when that changed for the Punto Evo. The interior was probably better on the later car though. It's a shame people seem to look back less fondly of these than earlier generations of the Punto.
It's good to see this one still in the road as these Grande Punto seem to be one of those modern cars that seem to be slipping into obscurity.

Another excellent Review Mr Lloyd, my wife's uncle has/had one of these (not sure if still has it) from new in a orange colour, great little cars and in my opinion much better looking inside and out.

Very stylish cars . As I will always say, nicely presented dash, who needs touchscreens .

Spirito D'Punto Sir. I have to say not enough people go for the brand, where perhaps they should. A very good car, when we where looking for my wife's Ibiza I did give this serious thought but then the Ibiza came up and we both liked and still do like it's sharp looks.

I had a “non grande” version of one of these as a hire car in Italy back in 2007…I had read Autocar on the plane and thought how stunning the design was….unfortunately, for a new car, the driving dynamics were pretty rubbish (I should have gone for the Mini Cooper Hertz offered me instead - would have been much more fun zipping around the Italian lakes..!). To be fair the d@%sel engine probably didn’t help! With all that being said, having previously owned a Panda of this era, for the money I would definitely have one - I still think they look great
