Revelations from nearly 12 million leaked confidential financial records have thrown light on the concealed wealth of powerful public figures around the world. How do they hide their money, and why is this information important?

The Pandora Papers were released this week showing that Jordan’s King - Abdullah II amassed $100 million in property including homes in The United States and London. An alleged mistress of Vladimir Putin, Russia’s leader managed to covertly buy a luxury residence in Monaco. Tony & Cherie Blair used a company structure avoiding paying Stamp duty on their London home. The Czech Republic’s prime minister, an anticorruption crusader, secretly acquired a French Riviera estate.

Revelations from the Pandora Papers report, a collaboration by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists and media partners that include The Washington Post and The Guardian, began reverberating through and beyond the financial world of the rich and powerful almost immediately after the authors started releasing them on Sunday. In Today’s video we look at what data was released, and to what extent does it matter. We Discuss why wealthy individuals have moved their wealth into South Dakota Trusts and away from Switzerland and The Cayman Islands.

You seriously have one of the most important channels on YouTube as far as delivering facts in a world of "fact checking", "clickbait" and "fake news" . So much b.s. on the news these days this is what we need. Unbiased opinionated news.

Agreed Patrick, very nice take on the matter. With a combination of cynicism but also level headed takes. Why you're my favorite finance channel by a longshot.

Patrick Boyle is legit. I wish there were at least a thousand of them and the world will be a lot more intelligent and saner place.

Jesus. Again, I learned so much.
Way more than I would have ever learned from any classic/corporate media report.
Thanks Patrick!

I’m of the same mind on the issue.

A 45 minute news story was run a few days ago here Australia, and I was left scratching my head not knowing what the problem was.
The trouble was, the news outlet was accompanying the story with triggering language and unsettling music. For the most part I’m sure the Pandora papers are just a headline to sell and get the public worked up over nothing.

This was a really good piece. The pandora papers have everything the average person finds salacious. But when you step back as your video does, it would appear there are more opinions about the papers than people who have actually read them. Having lots of money doesn't mean corruption and seeking privacy doesn't mean you have something bad to hide.

To be honest...
I expected something more by a name like PANDORA Papers.
Something world shaking.
Like knowing the amount of naked shorts in the world or something alike.
This is more like Hypnos, the god of sleep papers.
Rich people using tax haven, i am shocked, flabbergasted, gobsmacked and startled by these revelations

Hellow Patrick, we have a politician in Romania ( the mayor of on one sector of Bucharest ) that own some offshore companies ( revealed in the Panama papers ) that are involved in business in Romania. The problem is that those companies do business with the town hall where he was elected, so he pay 96, 6 million euro's to those companies from the town hall budget. In my opinion this is money laundering and corruption at top level. So not all are doing legal transaction with the offshore companies. The problem is that in Romania he will not be prosecuted because corruption is to extended even in the judiciary system. An the sad thing is that even if we know that he steal ( he is the most in debt person in the Romania - not paying his tax to the state ) he is still elected as mayor by the citizens.

11:37 So this is where “Trust Fund Kids” come from.

I would agree with your ending statement, there is no way that the data for this report was gathered legitimately. In order to gain access to confidential documents and hand it over to a journalist institution, would have been through theft or someone inside leaking documents, willingly or coercively. I would imagine that the IJIC could be hit with lawsuits by parties affected over sharing private information, especially if the data was confidential for legitimate and ethical reasons, and I do hope so.

Hi Patrick your point on how journalists accessed private information and made it available to the public is poignant, your depth on this subject offers a different take to the narrative. Thank you

Thank you for continuing to provide this great fact-based content on your channel! It's refreshing to be presented with actual facts on these topics. It's difficult to separate fact from opinion, assumptions, and slander in media nowadays. So thank you! The casual humor tossed in is perfect

Can i say how i like how you angle this from different perspectives? That is pure quality, and very objective. I love content that don't take personal stance but take a look at things from several perspectives rather than just having tunnel vision with emotions. ! Great !

If you want to send a fleet to South Dakota, you could sail north up the Mississippi, and take a left when you reach the Missouri. Eventually you'll get there, although I'm not sure how feasible that would be in practice.
