⚓️Most Impressive Ship 2023? Ship 'Maxima' departs Duluth, MN

The 452 foot ship Maxima from the Netherlands is an incredibly sleek and modern looking vessel! This has to be the most amazing/impressive ship to stop in Duluth this year for sure. The design reminds me of a modern version of an old school great lakes freighter. Take at look how beautiful the coloring is on the entire vessel. It's very new too! Built in 2021. What a stunning ship!

This ship is an excellent exercise in parsimony and efficiency. It was built at Groningen, inside the sea dikes, and is the maximum size that would fit through the canals and locks to get to the ocean. Helm and crew are up front, efficiently using the point end, and the holds are two plumb, straight, and level "boxes." To me, it looks like a "Bolger Box, " small craft designs that are simple and remarkable capable. Engine of only 4, 000 horsepower is in the stern where it occupies the space where the hull rises, and there is a sleek box keel for the ducted propeller. It's double hulled and is rated for ice conditions. The bow is a modified X-bow that rises to the waves instead of ramming into them. Ballast water goes into the double hull and not the cargo hold. It was built in parts and then assembled in a very efficient construction process. Note that it was built in the Netherlands and is registered there, not operating under some flag of convenience. I think it is a truly marvelous design. Start with a clean sheet of paper, and a design like this could be adapted as a sail auxiliary.

The Dutch build insanely powerful and well engineered ships. It makes perfect sense seeing their vessels in the Great Lakes. What a visual treat.

Hi Mike, thank you for your wonderful and educating video of this beautiful vessel 😃 our son is currently sailing on the Edenborg (also a Wagenborg vessel) as a cadet on his first internship for 6 months (until january 2024). The Edenborg arrived at Duluth on august 12 th and left on august 16 th for Spain, La Coruna.
Looking on the live camera's we spotted our son on deck as the vessel left the harbor. He and we ourselves enjoyed the enthousiasm of all the people waving the captain and crew goodbye from the Duluth pier.
I love your channel en will certainly visit it from now !
Have a nice day! Greetings from Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

So sleek! No huge ladders to climb to the pilot house! (Not a fan of heights). Love the whole design. Blessings to all who board her. Very cool.

What a beautiful young lady, and a salty, to boot! She glides so gracefully through the canal and out into the lake. Safe journey back home. ❤🎉

Mike, I must have missed this departure as I'm a year late in viewing. lol! The Maxima is one fine looking salty. With the pilot house high and situated in the front, it must make for some spectacular experiences especially when ploughing through some of the Atlantic storms. I'd thoroughly enjoy see her as she navigates the locks at Slt St Marie. It's so fascinating to watch those locks working. Thanks for sharing

Her lines are so clean and modern, she seems small and toy-like until you see one of her crew. Glad she got the full salute from the Lift Bridge on her outbound meeting! Amazing ship - I hope we see more of her kind. Blessings & Joy to her Captain & crew wherever they are currently! 😊💜
