The SWIR image sensors can be used to assist firefighting efforts, as they can capture images while suppressing the impact of smoke. In this video, we compare the footage captured by SWIR image sensor with results from a visible spectrum, near-infrared (NIR), and long wavelength infrared (LWIR) cameras in a smoke-filled space.

Filming setup:
・Various objects such as a clock, metal lettering, and panels are presented in a box and filmed in an environment filled with smoke from a burning blanket.
・These target objects are illuminated using halogen lights that cover a wide spectrum of light from visible to infrared. A 1,550 nm band-pass filter is fitted to the SWIR camera in order to capture the range of long wavelength light that is more easily transmitted through smoke.
