A bumper sticker in the early 60s was AuH2O. I recall it well.

"The conservative Woodstock"
It sounds like it was closer to the rage and resentment of Woodstock '99 than to the easy vibes of the '69 original.

Why were the original uploads of this series taken down and then reuploaded?

Goldwater is one of those Presidents that sadly never was. His vision was simple just like how Thomas Jefferson drew it up: Small federal government with states rights. Sadly, the people voted for a statist Warhawk by the initials of LBJ, who just like JFK got us into Vietnam. Well done 1960's America. Well fucking done.

These were the people who pushed through the 1964 Equal Rights Act only one month later, just for context

Ultimately he didn’t win in ‘64 but he was the beginnings of the silent majority and republican domination of the presidency for years to come.

Goldwater was a good man with spine unfortunately to the cost of tactfulness and pragmatism. He rejected the civil rights act simply based on a firm belief in the small roll of the federal government. By no means a racist or hateful man. What a hit piece on a rather peaceful forgotten American icon.

Goldwater wasn't electable. Johnson felt inferior to the effete NE liberal establishment as he was a simple Hill Country teacher. But, he knew that ingratiating himself was an astute move to grab power. Goldwater deserves credit for being forthright & candid. He didn't mince words. LBJ was a keen chameleon who flew under the radar. Politicians who knew him said you really couldn't tell if he was liberal or conservative bc he told ppl what was appealing to them at a given moment. LBJ's most important goal in adult life was to be a legit pres.

Goldwater would, like fellow Arizonian John McCain, throw up at the thought of Donald Trump. As he grew older, he became more of a libertarian (except in matters of national defense) and supported most civil rights efforts after the 1964 act, which he voted against on constitutional grounds (and I disagreed with him on that as a 12 year old). If you read his campaign materials as I did, he was not as extreme as he was depicted.

He may lost the election, but his ideas survived in the GOP.
