The night sky is best seen when there is as little light pollution as possible. How much light pollution is there where you live?

What a great organization they are - they say their mission is "to preserve and protect the night time environment and our heritage of dark skies through quality outdoor lighting" and we agree!

This site is just outside of the city limits of Tucson. We have an incredibly dark sky, national parks, monuments and special places galore around us. We are lucky and we welcome visitors.

My sister lives in the mountains of Tucson and one of the first things I noticed was that there were no street lights. They can't have them because they have an observatory.

"What's the brightest star?"
kid: "Sirius"
other random kid: "Are you serious?"
this kid got the puns 😂

Looking up at the night sky was what gave me a sense of perspective as a kid. More parents should let their kids experience this.

This is a great idea and I tip my hat to those who do this for the kids !! It doesn't seem like so long ago that me and my family would search the skies on summer nights for a climpse of "SPUTNIK ", the first Russian satellite, and we actually found it on several occasions ! What a thrill it was and it also left us with a spooky feeling inside too with it being our adversary up there flying alone in the heavens !! But now I enjoy looking up to see the ISS going overhead at night and satellites are so abundant nowadays !! So much to love and explore in the awesome beauty of a dark night sky !!

I live in southwest of the United states where the night skys are bright with stars. I met a few people who lived in the cities all their lives who never seen a Starry night. They became so city oriented it amazes them.

I always love the night sky ever since when I was a kid. Good thing there's an astronomy club in my school which we stay late to see some planets and beautiful night sky! ❤️❤️❤️
