The Kia XCeed crossover is the latest hatchback to get some SUV styling cues. It gets taller suspension, some bodywork cladding and a decent choice of engines, including a frugal PHEV model. Is this enough to make it worth considering over a regular SUV or hatchback? Richard Ingram delivers the Carbuyer verdict.

Good review. I think on YouTube we have been spoiled by reviews of high performance saloons, supercars, hot hatches, extreme off-roaders, hyper-luxury cars etc. That honest reviews of cars like this force reviewers to defend the cars short-comings of how it won’t go round a corners ‘getting its tail out’. Some (read the majority) cars are just meant to be reliable and comfortable between the Doors and that’s great. I know I love hugging reaching lines etc but sometimes I just want to sit comfortably and get down the road with minimal fuss and I don’t care about 0-60 or BHP. This car is perfect for the second part.

A raised hatch makes the most sense for our broken and bumpy road. Agile and economical little hatch yet long suspension travel for riding comfort 👍👍😊

Boot capacity with rear seats folded down? Mpg and BHP for each model? Reversing or parking sensors? Saw one today and the exterior image impressed with the chrome trim around windows.

Has Kia made a compact SUV good enough to compete with established rivals? Let us know what you think!

don't shame it buy calling it a crossover, call it a lifted hatch. everyone loves lifted hatch and wagons. Its competitor is only focus active, older golf allroad, sube XV; others r a different class. And such cars must be tested on gravel roads and maybe simple grass (not extreme offroad).

Why aren’t UK XCeeds offered with the Ceed GT’s 200bhp 1.6-litre turbo inline-4 like it is in foreign markets?

Oh come on, don't call it SUV.
It's gorgeous, but it doesn't even reach your shoulder height.

How very odd...
We're often told that, one of the main reasons a buyer chooses the Crossover / SUV version of a model over the regular hatch is because "I get more passenger space"...
Hopefully, then, that means we'll see less Crossovers bludgeoning around our narrower UK streets, hogging more parking space and polluting our city air than would the regular-sized hatchbacks and estate cars...

1.0l turbo fuel economy is s**t according to my Mum. 2013 Peugeot 3008 had better economy. Get the hybrid. It's worth the reduced boot space.

Yes an ok car in itself but please, at that price? Absolutely shocking.

But realistically anyone who buys these sort of cars don't tend to care about how flashy the exterior or interior is. They just want something practical, comfortable and well equipped. Tho obviously I still like to hear your opinion of it...

It's not an SUV it's actually advertised as a CUV.
I've just put my order in for one after taking it for a test drive.
This will be our second car and its perfect for that job. I wouldn't have it as a "main" family car
