The question is should you buy a 2004-2008 F150?
I own two 2004 Ford F150's one is a supercab 5.4 V8 Triton 4x4 and the other standard cab 4.6 2wd.
I have always loved the look of the 11th Gen F150's aka 2004-2008 F150's and there is a lot of information out there about them. I bought my supercab 3 years ago and it was going to be my first experience with the 5.4 3v engines and a ton of videos were making me pretty nervous but I decided to take the risk and get it anyways. Watch the video to see if you should buy an 04-08 F150.

I really hope we can get this up-voted so more people can read it! THIS MOTOR CAN BE AMAZING! However, if you do any repairs on the timing system without replacing the oil pump.... you're throwing your money away! In fact.... if you buy this truck and don't replace the oil you're throwing your money away! The timing system runs off of oil pressure and the factory pump is absolute trash and doesn't hold pressure! You NEED the upgraded Melling oil pump!

5.4L 3V engines are good, stay stick with 5w20 Syt-blend 7 quarts and ford motor craft oil filter every 3, 000 miles. I have my 2004 F-150 crew cab 5.4L 3V 225, 000 miles everything are original, soon I will change new timing chains all parts and high volume oil pump.

I freaking love this truck!! I'm at last year I had some money to spear so I decided to do the timing chain and upgraded oil pump ford recommends. I bought from the first owner who used it as a work truck. He took real good care of it and I swear this truck feels really nice to drive

I bought a 2008 FX4 super crew with 70K miles on it in December of 2022. I'm really happy with the truck and am excited for many years of fly fishing and camping adventures. I looked at the prices of new trucks and figured I can do a lot of upgrades and if needed repairs with the huge difference in money spent. I agree with you I think this generation of F series is a really handsome truck.

I got a 06 lariate supercrew and love that truck like no other. Got years of upgrades in it. My wife can just barley get in. Recently i painted two full cans of tremclad black on underside to stop corrosion... plus it looks sharp gloss black. And pulled out all interior and put dyna mat allover whole cab and one layer of underlay. Makes that truck a few levels quieter. Now i have sound system at lower levels because i dont hear road or exhaust. All o can really hear easily is wind noise up front and distant tailpipe growel out back. Love the 11 series.

I have an 06' with 240k miles on it, and I love mine. I've leveled it out, run 285/75r18's (34.5" tires), and have many more mods planned. To me, it's a great truck!

2008 4.2 F 150 XL 240, 000 Just replaced the water pump and fan clutch after water pump started leaking. I also put new radiator hoses and installed new radiator as was all original. The starter is original. Runs like a top and burns no oil..

I have a 2006 quad cab with the 5.4 engine. I bought it used a few years ago with 145k miles on it. All from the original owner who was meticulous with maintenance. It now has 180k. When I bought it I had the spark plugs swapped out to avoid the common issue of spark plugs freezing in the block and then breaking off when you try to remove them. From what I have read, the engine reliability issues stem from poor maintenance (oil changes) as the chain guides and phazers are sensative to oil quality. The recommended oil is 5w-20 but most people use 5w-30 as the recommended thinner oil was used to meet MPG numbers. Apart from replacing a few suspension components, I have had no issues with the truck at all. Prior trucks were Chevys that would have been fine, but the Active Fuel Management in the engines causes premature wear and the 4L60E transmissions used in the trucks blowing up after 100k miles.

I just bought an '07 with 145k miles and decided to do the full bulletproofing with all upgraded timing, lifters, tensioners, lash adjusters, water pump, you name it. It ended up costing me a decent amount because I had a family mechanic do all the work, but the peace of mind is worth it (so far). There's still some things I need to chase down like my horn not working and my ABS/E-Brake light on and the cats are fouled from a misfire that I fixed. So far, the truck is comfy on a road trip and budgeting gas before a long trip makes it a lot easier to swallow the terrible fuel economy and just enjoy the comfort of the truck.

I agree with everything you said in the video, very well done.

I have an 04 with 4.6 4x4 Borg Werner 4406 stick shift transfer case. 8.8 rear. It was a construction vehicle. It was abused but still going strong

I would buy it again no hesitation. Best vehicle I've had. I did like my 91 300Z but I'm over it now that I'm older. My 2005 had 130k when I bought it. I put $2500 into the engine. Took Fordtechmakuloco and did the timing job, lifters, oil pump, water pump. Truck runs great now, sounds new. I am always replacing spark plugs, but not a big deal. It's got 165k now and burns a little oil but runs amazing. Saves me a ton of money not buying something new and low insurance premiums. Thanks Ford!

Another fantastic upgrade (I have done) is install Raptor, or 12th gen seats. They bolt right in. All the plugs match except the primary/large plug (for power seats), but you can probe around and hard wire the hot and ground. This will give you power recline, which was never available in 11th gen seats, plus more headroom and more comfort.
