If confirmed, PYXIS to me just evolved from "meh don't care" to could be nice" (I don't NEED 12K, BUT the proprietary color filtration that allows to downscale the BRAW is quite unique and interesting). Let's say it's true, I'm betting that framerates will be the major differentiating factor and I'm sure they will be the same as the regular PYXIS but with more pixels and no crop.

This is a very interesting cam and a super exciting one if it does indeed have NDs! See you at NAB ✌️

Even if we only got 8k60 and 12k30, it would still be an incredible. I’m not holding out hope for internal NDs. The PL to L mount adapters with drop in NDs are more than good enough.

I think BMD realized that they currently have the jump on Sony Semiconductor (and Canon.) If margins are viable, there’s no reason for them to wait on development and release of RGBW cameras, because this is their window to scoop up a big chunk of market share. They’re presumably counting on their excellent ecosystem and Resolve’s excellent toolset to retain a crop of users that they’ll pick up here in the short term.

It kinda makes sense when you think about it. The Pyxis body seems to have wayyy more cooling capacity than it needs.(when compared to the BMCC 6k for example)

We JUST need ND filters in body 🤞🏻. I refuse to move on from my Pocket 6k Pro until we see that. It saves me so much time as a solo operator.

I wonder if they are trying to simplify their supply chain using their own sensor across all their cameras eventually. It would probably be most cost effective not to mention let them update and innovate it much faster. Perhaps this is what the Pyxis should have been all along but delays with the 12K sensor forced them to need a stop gap sensor. The Cinema 6K FF and Pyxis sensor did seem a slightly odd sideways move the previous 6K S35 sensor. Sadly I dont think this camera will have built in NDs or v-lock battery plate as there will still need to be a way of separating the URSA, that and processing power for higher frame rates and bit rates will probably make it stand out.

It’s so crazy, I’m REALLY F*cking excited… and I’m a red and Sony Fx owner.

I still highly doubt the Pyxis 12k will have internal NDs, BUT if they are able to implement the rotary system, like in the UMP design, it would be a huge win, IMO. I just can't see Internal NDs with that sensor height in THAT Pyxis body doable. But I'm no engineer.

I wish I was at NAB this year! The announcement of this camera doesn't bother me at all. I just purchased two Pyxis 6ks (last 6 months) for my first feature film. Of course all the features that will come with the 12k pyxis would be welcome, but the price point will be out of my reach. Especially for someone who needed two cameras. Even if this had been announced before I purchased, it wouldn't have been something I could have afforded. I'm just glad that BlackMagic literally has a cinema camera for every price point. There are tradeoffs with every tier, but at least you can get in the game affordably.

I literally had a komodo in my bhphoto cart with the new low price. I didn’t pull the trigger, now I’m glad I didn’t!

Full-frame, 16 stops, in the smaller Pyxis body? I'm in! $4500 was what I was thinking before you mentioned it.

man this news just gave me the biggest morning wood! Absolutely buying this camera. not to mention, improved readout speeds over the pyxis FF. Hopefully, they PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give us V-Mounts rather than the what the pyxis currently has.

What's crazy if true Blackmagic is always close to the dynamic range that they state.... So I will be pre ordering immediately especially with internal ND's and probably immediately be my second Netflix approved camera

Woah! Holding back on the 12k purchase

Wow, I've literally added the 12K Cine LF to my cart and removed it several times in the last 10 days after talking myself out of it. Now I feel better about waiting a bit to see what's coming down the pike. Thanks for the info on the Pyxis 12K LF.

I dont know if will have NDs as that body seems a little small for a stacked ND system. But if it doesnt i dont think thats a big deal, with the Mofage Poco etc. But, I wonder if how will this impact RED. I'm sure someone will throw R3D at me, but this is a full frame 16 + stop sensor with fast readout speed. This will probably challenge a RED Raptor minus the framerates

If we go by the specs of the ursa cine 12k LF when it’s running off of 12v power (which is what the Pyxis uses) the frame rates are limited to 60fps. That’s going to be the differentiating factor between the Pyxis 12k and the ursa cine 12k

Also It’s not going to have internal Internal ND. The body is not tall or wide enough for filters to be housed internally.

Pricing wise, that would put the Pyxis 6K at $2995, the Pyxis 12K at a possible $4995, and the URSA Cine 12K LP at the current price $6995. The $2K separation helps balance out the lineup, and places the Pyxis 12K well below a comparable RED Komodo X. This also ensures that the early Pyxis 6K adopters don’t feel as bad with their purchase as the $2K jump in pricing is a large enough gap for budget minded buyers.
