#HandsandFeetAnomalies

In medical terms, an anomaly is any sort of deformity or distortion that makes a part of the body function incorrectly or be a different size or shape than it would be normally.

Congenital anomalies comprise a wide range of abnormalities of body structure or function that are present at birth and are of prenatal origin. These conditions develop prenatally and may be identified before or at birth, or later in life.

In some cases, anomalies can also be 'acquired' caused by injuries or illnesses that were not present at birth.

- I'm so grateful for my normal hands and feet now, after watching this video. Even my crazy toes feels quite ok. Just wish no one had to experience these anomalies. Some of them were really severe.
Thank you for making this informative video.

I worked in a newborn nursery and one of the babies was born with 6 fingers on each hand and 6 toes on each foot. They were perfectly formed which is unusual. The baby was also born with hemorrhoids. First time I saw that. But other than those abnormalities, the baby was perfectly healthy.

I met a guy in jail that had lobster claws and he could roll cigarettes faster and better then everyone else in fact he would be paid to roll people's cigarettes for them.

I' ve only know of one case of this birth defect from a girl I still remember to this day from elementary school. Thing is She had the most BEAUTIFUL hand writing I had ever seen for some one her age and handicap. I hope she is still alive and thriving.

Your videos are always so very interesting and educational. I find the mirror hand to be fascinating. If I had that "deformity" and all the fingers were totally functional as shown on the hand at 0:40 and there was no threat to my over all health, I would not want corrective surgery. Nothing wrong with being a little "different".

I enjoy your channel because it's educational, AND because it gives me the creeps.

You always have something new and fascinating. I thought I was aware of every anomaly imaginable, but this was entirely unknown to me.

The work, some of those doctors can do, is amazing!

Fascinating stuff! And well researched. Consider stories on circus sideshow performers of the old days. Their conditions were never explained, they were just gawked at.

Imagine throwing up gang signs with that first condition, you'd own ANY hood you walked into 😎.

Not sure how I should frame this except as observation that throughout the vid, you play spooky, creepy, scary music and sounds while showing the medical anomalies. There's message in there that I'm not sure you mean to convey-- that the anomalies should arouse feelings of fear and perhaps avoidance. I'm thinking the various persons that are displaying these unusual characteristics, some of them obviously children, should likewise be feared and avoided. I hope we are well past that way looking at differences and was happy to note that almost all of your commenters were full of "fascinat[ion]" and curiosity. I'm not suggesting the "Yakkety Sax" or selections from variously labelled "Pathetique"[s] but perhaps something with a little less of the weird. Just so ya know, I'll be back, hopefully to have my yen for curiosities filled.

When my younger sister was born she had an extra finger on each hand. The doctor was hesitant to tell my dad because I guess they thought he would freak out or something...nope dad laughed and said "that's my girl. I was born with an extra toe"
And like my dad's extra toe they tied those extra fingers to cut off the circulation so it would die and fall off. Before you go thinking that that is awful or cruel, it had no bones, muscles or tendons and would never be functional, just a floppy bit of skin with a teeny tiny fingernail.

We make jokes about too much chlorine in the gene pool 😆

Extra numerary digits are usually removed when they cause pain, malfunction or prevent use of fingers in some way. Cosmetic being the only reason is usually discouraged in modern medical practice. That said, unless there is appropriate nerve and vascularity extra digits can cause physical problems, as well as mental distress, so are often removed if risk can be shown. It's far more common than people think.

I have Raynauds phenomenon, and I live in a cold state 🥶. My fingers and toes are always cold but, when it snows and I come in after taking my dog out the pain is excruciating. My fingers turn purple. I hate it. I wear gloves for massive cold weather, they don't help. It sucks.

I had a teacher who had symbrachydactyly. He was born with one hand that had nubs for fingers. Back when he was a kid his family was dirt poor and couldn't afford to do anything about it. By the time he was an adult, they could have helped him but he told us that it didn't affect him at all and he just left it alone. Pretty nice guy, Orville McKnight.
