I've been living in an old (1987) RV that I paid cash for, for the last 8+ years now and I LOVE it. One of the best decisions I've ever made was to give up all the unnecessary "stuff" that I THOUGHT I needed to be happy, just like most other people. Extremely liberating, less stress, less headache, more money and more freedom!

My husband, our three boys, and myself are living in a camper. We sold our house in 2021 for $410, 000 and after paying off our mortgage and fees we had $290, 000 in our pocket. We then bought 60 acres with cash and had a pole barn built with cash. My husband and I are now turning it into a barndominium. Yes, we could of bought a smaller piece of property with an already established house on it. But, when it's over said and done, we'll have a home that we are proud of, that's paid for, and a big piece of property that will be my children's one day. It's well worth the aggravation of living in a camper right now because we know what's ahead of us. A life free of debt. God is good!!!

My wife and I are living in a camper right now while we are building. It’s not bad at all if you have the right mindset. And you can save a bunch of money if you do it right

Sounds like "van life" may not be as glamorous as it's cracked up to be on YouTube.

15 year fixed at 5.375 means the family needs to make $135, 000 just to afford a $300, 000 house....only 20% of all households make that and most of those are above the age of 45.

This advice is not helpful to the vast majority

Living in a camper is so much less expensive than an actual home or apartment.
While in the military, I had several friends that decided to live in campers while moving every 2, 3, or 4 years.
The fees for campsites were around 25 to 30% (or less) of their monthly housing allowance.
They used the rest of the money to get out of debt, buy real estate and invest in their retirement.

$17k to sell your home to live in a camper.

Dave's reaction at 1:18 left me laughing out of my chair.

I live near Springfield MO, Living in a camper or tiny house is a big THING here. It saves tons of money.

Renting is not their best option right now unless they care more about status. Financially it would make better sense to stay in the camper and save up til they get far enough ahead that they can kick back and breathe comfortably 👍

Springfield, MO in a camper? Wow that hits close to home! It's a great area of the country to do it and that's why I do as well!

I think it was shortsighted to sell the house. They’ve probably never looked an amortization schedule. With current interest rates, they’re going to lose so bad when they buy the next house.

The camper route is a good option. Have several friends that did this after buying property.

I'm living in a camper. I do have a 15k car loan that I be done by Christmas. Being the only parent of a daughter that works. Sometimes you do what needs to get done. At peace and looking forward in using my camper for retirement to travel the USA and Canada 🎉

17k from the home sale. That's what was worth taking your kids and putting them in a camper with 2 dogs. Wow.

They sold because they got money from their one and only asset, then bought a depreciating liability with the profit made, now interest rates are higher on homes, and the home prices are up. So basically, they got rid of their only asset to spend more money with no asset at all. I really want to know her thinking on this.

Not sure why Dave said to rent a house. First they should compare how much it would cost to stay in the camper vs renting. Additionally it cost money to move into a new place (deposits, first month rent) and a credit inquiry which will delay moving into a home. I would say continue staying in the camper while paying off debt. Pick up a second job or find ways to make extra income. Then once debt is paid, then look into buying property. What is the rush unless they are tired of living in a camper?🤔
