I think the real hero of this movie is the promoter who some how got this many people to go to a battle of the bands on a weekday morning

THe best part of this performance is that ALL the kids were involved. He didn't just scoop up the kids who had musical talent, he made sure that EVERY kid had a role and could meaningfully contribute, and in a way that best showed their talents. And the kids were all having a lot of fun because of it.

The cut to Tamika's parents beaming with pride in the audience always gets me choked up, it's such a gratifying moment.

I really love that this is Jack Black's favorite project that he's done. It really shows from the entire cast that it truly was a blast for all involved

For a group who is suffering from a terminal blood disease (which I believe it's called "stickittodamaniosis"), they performed pretty well

This movie is a 10/10. This scene is iconic, Jack Black gives a performance for the ages. Richard Linklater directs this movie and scene like a Spike Jonze music video. God this movie ROCKS

When the two parents in the crowd compliment each others kid, it's EVERYTHING! EVERY. THING.

Even as a kid, 1:57 really got to me. Tomika vocally expressed her sadness surrounding her weight, which led to her low self-esteem and confidence, and not having friends - and I'm sure her parents were painfully aware of this. Here, they finally see their daughter loving herself, full of confidence and talent, and working with other kids.

Underrated element of what makes this movie great is that it highlights how many people are key to the band's success besides just who's up on stage. Showing the roadies, the stage crew, the effects people having key moments really shows that Jack Black wants to highlight the whole crew it takes to really put on a rocking show, and highlight just how much those people matter. A great bit.

I'm so proud of the drummer. in the beginning, they said he got stuck on the triangle because that was the best he could do and when he got put on drums he took it dead serious. it warmed my heart to see him work so hard to do good.

The thing I love about this movie is how Jack not only gets so well into character, but he gets along well with the kids he is working with to the point you can see the chemistry regardless if its acting or not. Jack is an overall amazing guy.

There's some understated irony here; The song originally planned for the battle was a spiteful ego trip about how he made his old band what they were and they were nothing without him. In the scene right before this, having gone through quite a bit of character development over the movie, he admits that Zach's song is better and they should go with that, basically giving his big moment to the kids instead.
Zach's song, when listening to the lyrics, is basically a tribute to Jack Black's character and how he helped better them. So in the end he still ends up singing about his own accomplishments, it's just truly earned rather than being a boast.

One thing I love most is how much of a onfidence boost he gave those kids that cle. Especially Lawrence, who said he was "not cool enough" and Tomika, who thought people would laugh at her because she had issues with her body weight & appearance. He REALLY made ALL of those kids feel great about themselves, and you can really see it happening through the course of the movie.

After twenty years, I STILL love this film so fucking much! 🙃

Man this movie is so good. The lyrics telling how Dewey changed Zack’s life through rock and referring to him as the “magic man”. How he manages to change every single students’ life in a personal way, even the principal.

I feel like they haven’t been able to make a movie quite like that recently and still allow it to have “soul” without feeling cheap or virtue-signally. They had nearly every race/demographic while STILL getting talented kids and not trying to pat themselves on the back like they would today. A masterpiece.

I love the story of how this song came about, Jack Black went to a The Mooney Suzuki concert, went backstage to meet them, asked them to write a song for the movie and they called back the next day with a rough version of this song.

I liked how the parents change from worried to death about their kids to surprised & proud of their kids hidden talents to being mad that their kids didn't win the battle of the bands

this is one of the most genuinely satisfying scenes in cinema. We've only spent an hour or so with these fictional characters, but we feel emotions of pride for them all; we feel like we too can share in their moment. Plus, it kicks some A$$!
