A kinetic typography for the wonderful song "Ikea" by Jonathan Coulton. The font is Savings Bond.
This video was made in my early days with After Effects. Don't take it too seriously design/content-wise.

I'm Deaf and this is wonderful. I'm "listening" to the video via a transducer under my feet. The kinetic typography makes the music come alive for me. Hard to produce, but the results are worth it.

I just realized that the text builds and assembles itself into blocks, just like the furniture being assembled. That's really clever!

TRUE STORY: After five years of listening to this song I just realized he’s saying ‘Allen wrenches’, not ‘Allen Renchez’. I was literally searching the internet for Mr. Renchez’s connection to Ikea. just found this video. Went “oh great! Now I can see how Renchez is spelled.” The truth hit me in the face. My life is a lie.

That feel when you get stuck in a "Perfectly Normal, Regular Old IKEA" that extends indefinitely with no exit and deformed, violent, monster IKEA employees that track you down and politely ask you to leave at night while simultaneously ripping you apart, so you start a town with other survivors inside that grows into a civilization, leading to more towns across the new IKEA world and an entire society.

Props to anyone who gets the reference.

Ikea is a goddang magical wonderland, stoned or sober (but especially while stoned) To travel that endless labyrinth, weaving through the showrooms and touching all of the furniture, as you stumble your way to the cafeteria just for a taste of those glorious meatballs and lingonberries. Getting free refillable coffee with your ikea family card, going down to the warehouse area and having your friend push you in the smoothest riding cart youve ever sat on, knowing they cannot judge you, as others are doing the same. FInishing your journey in the as-is section and deciding you really, really need that 30 dollar marked down ottoman and deciding to get i even though you travelled to ikea on the bus...

A lot of commentors seem to not understand that Mr. Coulton's music is released using a Creative Commons license, meaning that people can use his song as long as they don't make money from it. THAT'S where FOX and Glee messed up. They're making money from downloads and advertising, where Mr. Varadi isn't making a cent from this video.
