The thing about influencers is they can have 5 million followers and still go somewhere and no one knows who the hell they are, celebrities go somewhere and most the time they are recognized by at least a few people.

I completely agree. There has to be a distinction between actual celebrities and influencers.
For those who liked my comment thank you. And those who thinks being invited to the Met Gala is about talent of celebrities, you are mistaken. When you call somebody to an event like this you keep in mind the reason for holding such an event. The reason is art and fashion. The glamour and entertainment industry. And reducing the people's interest and appreciation of art to followers is insane. It's not about the people who are invited there. It's about the event. May be the Chair of the committee saw nothing like that from them. Even the Kardashians had to buy tickets. That's how they wanted to conduct the whole thing. It's not the people it's the art in the museum. Plz understand.

I think a lot of notable people didn’t attend. Besides the influencers, Lady Gaga, Harry Styles, Zendaya, Bella Hadid, Katy Perry, Ariana Grande, even Blake Lively who has gone since 2008 and co chaired last year didn’t go. I think it was moreso the theme that deterred people than anything.
