Myanmar military hold annual parade amid battlefield losses

Thousands of Myanmar military personnel held their annual parade in the capital Naypyitaw on Wednesday, Mar. 27 against a background of unprecedented battlefield defeats that have heavily tarnished their once invincible reputation. The military seized power in Myanmar in February 2021, overthrowing the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi, whom it accused, without providing evidence, of winning the 2020 election through massive voter fraud. There is strategic military value to parades even when that very same standing army is taking losses in the field at the same time.

1. A parade communicates the army/faction is still socially and territorially dominant enough to safley host a parade in the middle of a war.

2. Soldiers; specifically the younger ones, need to be fed/supplied with social validation and attention to keep them motovated. Conversley however; the parade also serves as a form of collectivist peer pressure that keeps unhappy or unsure soldiers from stepping out of line or trying to leave.
