The Uttar Pradesh government has requested the National Medical Commission (NMC) to authorize the commencement of MBBS courses at 13 newly established medical colleges in the state for the 2023-24 academic session. These colleges were previously denied permission to admit students. The NMC had initially disapproved these colleges, but the state government has now addressed the issues and reapplied for approval. If granted, this will add over 1,300 MBBS seats in Uttar Pradesh, significantly reducing the state's NEET cutoff. The government is also planning to establish 12 more medical colleges in the coming 2-3 years, making Uttar Pradesh a leader in medical education in India.
