Experiments with vocal Instruments - Tom Thum beatbox

Tom and Timbre. This video is a bit of a weird one to be honest. Some nights I will literally sit for hours by myself in the studio and practice getting the timbre of certain instruments as close to the real thing as I possibly can. For example trying to emulate the fuller tone and extra breathiness of the sax or the warping of the words and pitch with a talkbox. It sounds absolutely insane but for this session I thought i'd just let the camera roll and give u guys a sneak peek into my process. Perhaps it'll give u guys some tips or some inspiration. Which ones do u think I got closest with? Who fell asleep? Who even bothers to read this far into a description.

I love how Tom has the voice to be a professional singer in just about any genre but he perseveres in the one he loves. He takes the possibilities of human sound to a whole new level through his dedication to beatboxing.

Hey Tom, long time listener, first time commenter.... I think. Just wanted to give you some constructive criticism.

Breathy Trumpet and Sax: Nailed the sound, but too much breath. It sounds manufactured. Try going breathy at the beginning and end of the notes, not during.

Hand shape resonance: nailed it.

Throat tap 4 attack: Aced it.

Talkbox: Can't be stopped! One of the hardest things to make sound anywhere near real. I think it needs a little compression and reverb to go with your echo/ethereal sound.

Swears: Best in the business.

Keep up the amazing work mate. I hope you will make a full track with this kind of sound and vibe. It's good, something different, and sets you apart.
