✔ Wausau is a city in and the county seat of Marathon County, Wisconsin, United States
✔ The Wisconsin River divides the city into east and west
✔ Settled in 1839 as a sawmill town, it was first called Big Bull Falls; by 1850 it had been renamed Wausau (Ojibwa: “Faraway Place”)
✔ As of the 2020 census, Wausau had a population of 39,994
✔ In the 1970s the city became home to a large Hmong population that resettled in the area after having been forced into refugee camps by the Vietnam War
✔ The town is primarily an agricultural (particularly dairying, ginseng, oats, corn, potatoes, and livestock), financial (insurance), and distribution center
✔ More than 90% of the cultivated ginseng grown in the United States is grown in Wisconsin, and 90 to 95% of Wisconsin-grown ginseng is produced in Marathon County
✔ At 1,200 feet, Sylvan Tubing Hill is the longest tubing hill in the state
✔ The Wausau area is also home to Granite Peak Ski Area, the highest skiable peak in Wisconsin and one of the oldest in the nation. When it opened on the slopes of Rib Mountain in 1937, it was one of the first ski areas in North America
✔ The Wausau Curling Center is the largest privately owned curling center and one of the oldest in the United States and home to the Wausau Curling Club
✔ The Wausau Woodchucks baseball team of the Northwoods League, an NCAA summer baseball league, plays home games at the Athletic Park in Wausau
✔ At 241 feet high, Dudley tower is the tallest commercial building in Wisconsin outside of Milwaukee
✔ Wausau is headquarters of the Wisconsin Valley Improvement Company, a private corporation that stores and releases river water to hydroelectric plants, which pay for its use, and regulates river flow
✔ Bull Falls Brewery is Wausau’s first micro-brewery
✔ During late Summer and early Fall, hundreds of umbrellas form a colorful canopy over 3rd Street in downtown Wausau. The popular umbrellas, which now are a prominent part of the Third Street Lifestyle Center logo, were the brainchild of Compass Properties’ Mark Craig. Mark was inspired by the colorful floating umbrellas that bathe the streets of Agueda, Portugal during its annual Agueda Festival each summer.

Its always nice to see wausau in the summer time. I lived in Wausau 25 years. I live in Appleton now but its my hometown and will live there again someday. When you were driving downtown it was kind of a pull on the heart string to hear about the mall being tore down. And even the Burger King there on the corner by the bus depot shutting down. I remember manpower across the street and working for them. I could go on but thanks for the video and taking me home.
