"In a new HuffPost/YouGov poll, only 36 percent of Americans reported having "a lot" of trust that information they get from scientists is accurate and reliable. Fifty-one percent said they trust that information only a little, and another 6 percent said they don't trust it at all."

So basically, Americans are too lazy to check/test the science themselves they claim is false..

probably because most Americans believe in god, and if they actually listened to reality and science they would cry

People don't trust what they can't understand.

One thing that the Tabacco Companies have taught us...is that Scientists can be bought just like anyone else. They're definitely influenced by the People, Organizations or Companies that are sponsoring them. So, you have to take everything they say with a grain of salt...you just can't simply take their word for it these days.

Worse than science sometimes being biased by politics is when politics completely ignores REAL science.

don't blame them for not trusting scientists, they don't know where the research that helped create medicines, gmo foods (probably not a good thing ), speed, safety and i can go on forever came from

People should really learn how peer reviews work.
Scientists can be wrong/lie.The actual science is never wrong, it lacks information.
The scientific method is a solid foundation for arriving at the truth, and the last 300 years of technological progress is proof of that.

Climate change is only going to get worse, regardless of what we all do. Even if the USA and Europe cut all carbon emissions to zero, the rest of the developing world are not going to just give up fossil fuels. China alone builds a new coal fired power plant every week and they show no signs of stopping. The only thing the US can do is invest heavily in Science and Technology that will help us adapt to the changing planet.

"Science" isn't an industry and "Scientist" isn't a job.

This is why scientists should be allowed to test any product regardless of what the creating company wants, and be able to publish their results whatever they are.  Companies that gag scientists that say things they don't like is a HUGE problem.

I completely understand why American scientists are being distrusted. THIS is an ACTUAL science teacher at an Arkansas university. THIS IS WHAT HE ACTUALLY SAID ON A PRO CO2 YOUTUBE CHANNEL Carbon Dioxide is Food for Plants - stupid responses to stupid assertions about science

I have no choice but to trust scientists. Just like i have to trust a mechanic or a cook that they know what they are doing. This is the way a civilization works, if there were no trust, then we would have no civilization.

We can blame Christianity for most of the willful ignorance espoused by Americans.
Religion must be challenged at every level and opportunity as there is no "good" amount of it.

If you "Don't believe in science" then your opinion simply doesn't matter.

i think most people gave answers like me.
do you trust scientists?
me- "so long they are not funded by a heavily biased group, and they have a good honest track record. sure, but I don't trust all "science studies" you hear on the news blindly" - (them- ok, so "only a little")

Q- "do you trust science journalists?"
me- "again, depends, there are a lot of journalists that twist the study to sound different then it really is to fit a personal agenda, so again, you have to filter out manually those that follow the journals closely, and have a good track record doing so" - (them - ok, so "only a little")

in short, the questions they asked were far to broad, so of course people are going to give the middle answer to all the questions.

Personally its just offensive to me when people hate on science. To all you science haters, just remember; every time you use your gps, cell phone, car, microwave, television, internet, refrigerator, medicine, heater etc. you're using, trusting and relying on science.

I'm gonna guess the people that don't trust science think that the Noah's ark story makes perfect sense.
