hi friends!

reasons I will STOP or DNF a book I'm reading...

everyone's convictions are different, these are some of mine, as I've been asked a couple of times about this topic I figured making a video could be a good way to get the conversation going!

If you have certain boundaries with books, please leave a comment and let me know! I'm curious as to what makes you guys stop reading something!

love book videos?

Reasons I DNF For fiction: F words, sexually descriptive, dark magic that feels evil and boredom .
Reasons I DNF do non fiction: F words, repeated concepts I strongly disagree with and boredom

Basically the same reasons for either-haha

You should do a mystery/suspense/thriller book recommendation video.

Really useful to consider. And you're right, it's not always the things that we disagree with morally it can also just be unhelpful things. Romance books can leave a feeling of dissatisfaction with current life, or reading about someone's massive house can lead to not helpful envy! I have to know I am in the right place with God for that. Lots of non fiction on the go but fiction wise am reading 19th century novel Adam Bede at the moment, had no idea until I started that it's about a Methodist preacher- God appears again!

This is so important, to know when to stop reading a book. I remember giving a very popular book a try and the 1st few pages had so much cursing and swearing I had to give the book away. I couldn't digest what I was reading and thought the language was unnecessary.

Also, when I was younger romance novels were the ones that led me into curiosity and eventually becoming addicted to porn. Don't know if that's an extreme, but I definitely stray away from romance novels.

I don’t like to read things that get stuck in my mind like cuss words and horror. If a book makes me anxious I stop reading it. As for love scenes that are unrealistic or between unwed people, I skip those parts. God tells us to keep our minds pure, think on good things and not to fear so those are my basic guidelines for books and TV. Old saying applies to our heads and hearts: garbage in, garbage out.

I mostly read self help style books and even those will have some cursing. It’s almost if the curse words are coming from your mouth if you read over it in a book. Tv is cursing is bad too. But as a single person I avoid romance books and shows altogether. I’ll occasionally watch romantic type movies or show with a deeper meaning then just fluffy feelings and emotions. I think it’s a good example that even you as a married woman guard your mind from romantic books because it can still feed you lust

Thanks for this. I needed reminding. When I was a younger Christian, I would either switch off the TV or at least change channels if someone took God's name in vain, or if there was excessive swearing. I seem to have slacked off a lot from that. I definitely need to check myself on that more now. As for books, I don't think it takes much talent to write one where nearly every second word is a swear word or blasphemy. I did read 'The Girl On The Train' and I know exactly what you mean...I didn't like ANY of the characters in that book. I mostly read Christian non-fiction these days. I don't think Christian authors should write anything that compromises Christian/Biblical teachings and morals.

I appreciate this video. I have accidently picked up some books that were defiantly not something I was ok with.

Reading is so fundamental, & can improve/be great for the continuity of our mental health... I went through a book reading phase years ago, now I just read articles that interest me... (I really should get back into reading books though as it captivated my mind & pulled me out of the reality I was experiencing at the moment.. (God does that for me now.. & I completely agree we should guard our minds from unclean things💯...) Have a great day, God bless!

I'm only halfway through this video but so far I 100% agree with you on all of this. Funnily enough I DNFed The Girl on the Train because the characters were just so unlikeable. I definitely want to hear your favorite mystery/thriller books. Okay, off to watch the rest of this video . . .

So great Kendra! I agree with a lot of points you made. Definitely listen to convictions you have! They have really saved me from going down the wrong path, for sure. Have a lovely day sis ❤️

That's so interesting when I read a voice in the wind I disliked the male love interest(Marcus) and didn't want him with to be with the main character(Hadassah) at all. I actually found myself praying for people who don't exist to give their lives to Jesus😅😅😅 which lead me to pray for people who are lost in the world.
I stop reading books if they're boring or have strong language or anything that leads me to start normalising sin.

It's funny I was actually talking about putting boundaries with books yesterday.I was so confused on why I would having anxiety over a clean book. I recently realized that a lot of the books I was reading I was companion my life to theirs.

I just stopped reading “ yellow wife” which made me so sad bc I was so excited to read it, had this annoying sexual tension about this couple it made me so uncomfortable and felt so convicted. It suck bc I just started getting into reading and it was my first time stopping reading a book but I had to let it go. Ugh sucks to have wasted my money ughhh
