I've never gotten out of a consultation without a potential client asking me how much the fees are going to run. Frankly, it's hard to tell you without knowing a little bit about your case.
If you've looked on our website you'd know that there are certain cases we handle on a flat fee. This is a nice thing for you, because you know how exactly much it's going to cost. Things like separation agreements, flat fee. You're not getting billed by the hour. If I put 15 hours, 20 hours or 30 hours, it's all the same price. Mediations, collaborative law - these things that don't require us to go to the courtroom. We can limit our costs and therefore limit your costs are good options for a lot of people.
Now, if litigation is the only way to settle your case, then so be it. We're used to going to court, it's something we do frequently. Hardly a week goes by that we're not in there trying some case. By all means, there are cases that should go to court. But, if that's the case, I can't tell you exactly how much your fees will be because it's going to be based on how much time the lawyer has on your case and how complicated it is.
Certainly, when we sit down together and you come in the office and you explain your case to me, I can give you a good indication of what that will run you. Otherwise, you might reconsider something else, mediation, separation agreement or collaborative law.
