I'll get excited when GM has even one EV model in regular production. Right now there are none. Their Bolt factory is now completely shut down. The damage done by the battery fiasco makes me wonder if the Bolt will ever go back into production.

I will never, never, never buy another GM vehicle again. They have been cutting corners and making crap for decades and I don't see any reason they'll stop any time soon.

GM is delivering the first 5 of 500 commercial vans, the EV600, to FedEx. They will slow roll the rest of the deliveries through '22. It's an interesting space because commercial fleets will do the math to understand how much EV's will save them. FedEx reported that they'll see a $7000.00/yr savings in gas and repairs. They have a fleet of 100 thousand delivery vehicles, so you can see how exponential their profit margins can become.

Then there's the federal US government, who has a fleet of 600 thousand vehicles. To be completely electric in 15 yrs = 40 thousand EV vehicles ordered per year. And then there's all the state and local government fleets.

So just the Fed fleet would make a low ball estimated savings of 600 million dollars per year. 5, 000/miles per yr. @ 20mpg x $3.50 per gallon of gas. So you can see how much more savings a European country will save with $5+ dollars per gallon. The future is looking bright!

If GM had this truck 5 years ago instead if that rolling fireplace things would be different .

If you think a Sierra Denali is going to be affordable? You ought to share some of what you are smoking. The Denali line today starts and 80k. The 3500 model is $120k

An electric GMC pickup is barely newsworthy, even though GM wants you to believe that it is. It's an electric Chevy Silverado (which was already announced) with GMC badging and other minor tweaks. Glad GM is offering it, but it's not a new model.

GM got me all excited in 2010 with the volt and plans for the Ampera in the U.K., and I purchased in 2012 at launch, but then they went on to supply only 1350 or so vehicles over the next 2 years before pulling the plug on Europe to be followed in a couple of years by selling off Vauxhall and Opel brands. Most of the Amperas are still going fine, but after that and the EV1 fiasco it makes it very hard to get excited by their announcements until we see real volume follow through. It’s not as if there wasn’t a market here for more Amperas - there was, as can be seen by how second hand prices have held up. It would be waning by now but they are still being sought after by some.

The vast majority of pickup trucks are in town, on construction sites or on plant sites. They don't need a large range or big towing capacity.
Fleet purchases of fueled pickups died with the announcement of the Ford F-150 Lightning EV pickup truck.
Around town, EVs are the most efficient with slower speeds and regenerative braking. Or on plant sites. Owners will save big on fuel savings.
The dozens of pickups on every refinery site, chemical plant and mine don't need to do that. So now the decision will be how much of a premium in ownership cost will people pay for that once a year feature.

Not that this saves GM, but assuming that GM can deliver this electric truck, I'm sure you can imagine that current GM truck owners will then follow up and buy the electric version. As you may be aware, there's real brand loyalty and genuine hostility between GM truck owners and Ford truck owners in the US, so Barra's position (not defending that either) is understandable. That she feels their current car/truck owners will transition over to the electric offerings. Same will probably true for elder GM car owners if you can imagine car owners who are 60 years old or over. I can imagine they will simply go over to the GM EV offering once they need to buy a new car.

GM is slow to adapt to a changing environment. Always has been. Witness the decline of the #1 selling car of the 80’s the Oldsmobile Cutlass! Cadillac…Pontiac…it’s marching to the same grave as AMC.

I hope GM takes the old Silverado I paid $60, 000 for it as a trade-in. Oh, and it doesn’t catch on fire! You did it, Mary! Led the world and EV’s!
