At first I was annoyed the train wasn’t gonna have all of the carriages. But after seeing how detailed it is I’m perfectly fine with it. Wasn’t expecting it to be upscaled as well. Also looking forward to those new bigger train wheels.

500$ for two arches of the station and one carriage… Also, I think every big set should come with just a couple of random students, as those robes are quite rare especially for Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. However, they shouldn’t take the places of actual named characters that should be there.

And I am in the exact same boat as you, while I know I can just get the Power Functions separately, I prefer when they come with the sets, and it was a bigger mistake for them to not make this set motorized than sending the wrong set imo

I love this idea of a fully-detailed accurately scaled train. this is something I never expected lego to do, I hope they'll do this with a modern train in the future.

I'm pretty peeved that the set is so huge. It looks like it's too wide for standard lego rails, so it's more just a shelf piece than something interactive. Hell, the Swiss Crocodile set we got in 2020 had a display plaque but could still be motorized and run on tracks with little effort. I would've preferred a highly detailed, but track-compatible version of this, like the Emerald Night from 2010

This seems to be at a far larger scale then any other Lego train, which would make motorizing basically pointless when there are no curved tracks big enough for it.

Would much of preferred minifig scale with better detail than set, motorized with multiple passenger cars and full platform. Will probably only buy a few of the figs now if catch my fancy. No point to have old versions without the whole trio! Glad to save $500 though!

LEGO made a mistake with my order back in January. I ordered a couple new sets but I didn’t order the Ideas Sonic set. When my order arrived, I got all of the sets I ordered and the Sonic set which was not in my order. So I basically got it for free 😅

I remember seeing someone get a tile from the galaxy explorer a little bit before it came out. I wonder what’s up with Lego’s quality control.

Edit: Now some guy got the Optimus prime instructions in the pyramid set.

Set looks meh for 500$. I understand minifigures are sized the way they are, but this makes the figures look tiny, though I understand why they needed to make 3 carriages (Engine, tender and first carriage) I feel like its an awkward size given the platform section is only one carriage long. I feel like a better idea would have been if they just made the engine and tender and then recreated the carriage scenes as a display piece (like with the Lego Atari). Idk just my first impressions

For being a big fan of lego trains steam trains in particular I would had been just fine with no 9 and 3/4 platform build in this set and just a large hogwarts express with display stand. Very nice set but even with my life long love of trains this is easily a pass for me.

It seems it is just made for display, with the crocodile locomotive they at least made it compatible with powered up which was nice but this one seems to be too wide because if you look closely the width between the rails seem to be 5 studs instead of 4

They didn’t even give Luna a waste cloth. It’s less detailed than the CMF.

And this is something that won’t be able to be undone. LEGO won’t be able to reveal the set the way they would want to! I mean, you can’t just erase everyone’s memory of the reveal lol.

I would try to buy the set (even knowing that was so expensive) if it was a regular train set, like the crocodile. They could have used 7 or 8 wide minifigure scales to achieve more detail ...I'm more of a train fan than a Harry Potter one so I even had hopes to modify it as a GWR Hall class... At least the larger weels seem to be a new mold!
