Hearing this, I honestly thought once OP stepped back and Mike took over, got overwhelmed, and called mommy...that MIL would get on OP's case. But no, she had no sympathy. Talk about being a completely hands-off parent. Now he knows how OP feels and will be more sympathetic. And the fact the kids felt off due to their lack of routine, proved that Mike really hadn't had any control. Hopefully now things will improve. Some husbands take their wives for granted (even if they are SAHMs and don't work) thinking "it's not hard" till they have to take over cause the wives leave.

Really good story! There are two heroes in this story, Mike’s mom and his wife. His wife for taking a stand in the first place and sticking to it, and his mom for not stepping in to offer any help. A lot of men don’t have a clue what running a household entails. I’m really happy for the family. 😊

Both the Dad and the Kids really needed that reality check. Glad to see that everything worked out.

So op has a job and manage household chores and is the primary caregiver to 3 kids under 10.God Save this woman from exhaustion and burnout.
But it was so good to hear how Mike changed and everyone is happy now . It was heartwarming.

Husband: *slumps on couch* It's wasn't that bad.
Wife: *looks around the house from her sit and sees chaos that she doesn't have to clean*

It was also a wakeup call for the kids too, since they saw how much their mom had been doing for them.
And the bit about the MiL supporting her DiL was just gold.

When my son was a few months old (I forget if it was his 1st or 2nd summer but probably 1st when he was 4-6 months old) the weather was very hot and when I sympathised with my neighbour as he returned from work shortly after 5pm he foolishly commented that "it's alright for you with nothing to do all day". He was told in no uncertain terms that that was not the case with housework and 24 hour care. I particularly pointed out that he was now finished for the day and could go sit in the sun with a cold beer before watching the football later whereas I was on duty until 9pm or 10pm or whenever I could get the baby settled and then I was on call all night and up most nights at some point and if he was unwell, possibly more awake than sleeping!

I was expecting this to escalate and turn into a disaster where op is blamed and then prolly a divorce. He was oblivious at first but then got his lesson and changed towards being a better husband and parent. Nice

Mike: “you just have to be firm”
Also Mike when OP tries to be firm: “stop being so strict! It’s fine!”

Housework & child-rearing should be counted in monetary worth, to show families & societies what housewives bring to the homes.

Sounds like a fairy tale. With a happily ever after.

This is not even believable. Any parent who has a child with a peanut allergy wouldn't be making the other kids pb&j sandwiches anywhere near the allergy child's food. Smh.

I agree with OP's actions but I DON'T agree with negotiating with a child. Frankly, the 3 and 6 years old children sound like they need discipline and maybe going without a meal or two. "You don't like it? Okay, just sit there while the rest of us eat."
I do think OP should have communicated with teachers about what was happening.

Don’t want part I do kind of disagreed with I know it’s like a cliché in stories and TV but instead of just being absent to the kids, why not just switch the rules to help make things a little interesting like the three year old just wanted someone to watch Peppa Pig left. Original poster said I couldn’t mom at least that part.

I want to say I didn’t mean above as a negative thing I just thought that would be funny or the prove a point. But my favorite part of the story or just any of the parts having to deal with the three year old they were always so funny.

And put some kids take that pretty well if you break your head alien lol I’ve seen that before OK given it was a show about Superman and he had two twin sons in it that he confessed to in the first episode that he was Superman but I think it’s still stands

Not fair, Mom totally gave up everything, not just kid stuff. She should have continued cooking, dishes, laundry....

Wife should leave the kids with husband for a week and they will go crazy and they will be more gracious to the mother of there wife and help her out with the children and house work
