The Grand Hotel Exelsior Vittoria in Sorrento. An almost heavenly place. An exquisite luxury hotel that the great Enrico Caruso also appreciated. The tenor of the century spent the last two months of his life here before he died on August 2, 1921 at the age of only 48.
Torn ’a Surrient, return to Sorrento: this famous Neapolitan love song from 1894, which musically immortalized the beauty of this place, was also part of Caruso's repertoire.
Star tenor Vittorio Grigolo recently sang the song in the Reggia of Caserta. A special homage to the great, unrivaled role model. Caruso was also a gifted cartoonist. Everything that reminds of him is venerated here like relics.
His spirit is omnipresent here too. Even a century after his death.
Incidentally, his inimitable voice, too, which can be heard regularly from shellac records on an old gramophone.
