Fountain pen inks come in near limitless color options with various special properties. Finding the right ones can be as important as finding a fountain pen that writes to your liking.

Work appropriate inks tend to be your basic blue or black inks. Potentially with some amount of permanence or waterproof properties. But you may also be able to get away with blue black and the other "something" black inks that are just a really dark version of that color.

Colorful inks are just as they sound, coming in near limitless hues and shades. These can vary widely in their properties as the color is the main draw. So you may need to search through brands to find the specific color you want with your desired properties.

Problematic are just colorful inks that lean even further into aesthetic. Sheening inks can smear essentially forever on slicker papers and shimmer/pigmented inks may require a bit more care in cleaning habits. But they sure can look nice on a page.

What are some of your favorite inks? Specific brand or just a general color you stick to?

For me I like sheening and colorful inks quite a bit, shimmer not as much. I own a few plain blue/blue black inks but I don't own a single black ink. I started using fountain pens because I had to sign packing slips all day and wanted mine to be immediately recognizable.
