I've always thought that he (Denzel Washington) deserved to have won the Best Supporting Actor for his work in Philadelphia. The real character development happened with him, not Tom Hanks's character. Hanks was brilliant as well and deserved the recognition that he got, but Washington didn't even get nominated for ANY major awards for his work in that film. (If you haven't seen it, you should.)

I rewatched Philadelphia half a year ago, after only having watched it at the cinema when it was released in 1993. Excellent film. Both Tom and Denzel are terrific in their performances. Bruce Springsteen's "Streets of Philadelphia" was on my song listening playlist for some weeks afterwards.
