The Mills Brothers 'Till Then'

It's not a great leap from this recording to the doo-wop of the 1950s. While preceding the appearance of doo-wop by 10 years, "Till Then" written by Eddie Seiler, Sol Marcus, and Guy Wood, and recorded by The Mills Brothers in 1944, has most of the recognized elements of doo-wop - group harmony, a wide range of vocal parts, a simple beat, light instrumentation, and simple music and lyrics. The record, released on Decca, reached No 8 on the Billboard Best Seller chart and can be found on CD on 20th Century Masters: The Best of the Mills Brothers on MCA. It was to be covered by The Classics in 1963 in true doo-wop form. This is such a beautiful and bittersweet song. I dance near a lake at midnight. With someone I loved very much, although he no longer loves me. I hear this song every I go and I hope he is doing well.

Dean Martin often spoke of how The Mills Brothers were his greatest influence. I can remember hearing them on the radio in the '40s. Such rich voices and harmony.

Just finished watching don’t look up. Wow. Absolutely loved the political satire and message it gave. Really hope other people receive it how it should be received 👏🏽

This song must have had a lot of meaning to the soldiers going off to war and their sweethearts waiting for them to return.

So many heroes listened and listened to this in the war. As a child, I thought it was the most beautiful song I I knew. So many years, later my eyes still tear up. Who are the wretched soul-less 16 who press the down arrow key here? How unhappy they must be.

WWII song. My Dad was in the Pacific theater then & my Mom worked at a factory in Pittsburgh, PA. I miss them so much. 😪 I have a hundred questions I would ask them that didn't seem important when I was young. 😢

Next to The Platters, the Mills Brothers are one of those rare gems which are still dear to my heart that many years ago. May their music live on!!

I know every gain has a loss,
So pray that our loss is nothing but time. When Leonardo mentioned these lines in 'Don't look up'.

Feels like something you'd listen to in a nice cosy cottage, you'd sit in your favourite chair with the fire lighty cracking, with a whisky in your hand and your foot lightly tapping to the beat of this song.
