I flew out to see the last 2 Northern White Rhinos on Planet Earth 5 years ago where they stay under 24/7 armed guard at Ol'Pejeta after being announced as the last of their kind on Planet Earth. They are 'Functionally Extinct' which means that extinction is inevitable as they cannot breed anymore. It was the saddest episode I'd ever made..BUT..I have an amazing announcement! They are going to be SAVED!!! But how? Using DNA and Gene Editing. Colossal BioSciences and Bio Rescue have teamed up to create 30 viable Northern White Embryos which have been edited using DNA from museum exhibits (old skin, hair, bone DNA) in order to create genetic diversity. The first baby calf should be here by 2025. Watch today's exciting episode as Animal Watch has teamed up Colossal BioSciences ongoing to bring you all the De-Extinction News as it comes including the return of the Woolly Mammoth, the Dodo and the Thylacine. Exciting times!!!

As much as this is really good news and leaves us hopeful in reversing the ecocide that humans has inflicted so far, I must admit that I'm smitten by your beautiful wolf dog. I had a big and handsome standard poodle who attracted attention wherever he went, but your dog is just another level.

Fantastic video Anneka! Thank you very much for giving us such sensational news! This Colossal project is truly exceptional both in terms of white rhinoceros and in terms of bringing some extinct animals back to life! I'm really very happy that all this will actually happen because our planet needs to return to a better condition to hallow humans and animals to live better. Anneka again thank you so much and i wish you and Ocean all the best!👍👍💙🐺🫶

Hi Anneka... this is a very informative and fascinating video about the work that's being done to save critically endangered species. While it's amazing to learn there is research work being done to bring back extinct animals, I just wanted to point out some potential drawbacks to de-extinction. For instance, if suppose the woolly mammoth is reintroduced in the tundra, it could compete with other animals for food and space. In addition, the mammoth could be susceptible to a disease for which it may not be immune to. Furthermore, the tundra environment is completely different than how it was when the mammoths became extinct. Also, funding for de-extinction projects would most likely come from current conservation projects. This would weaken the efforts and critically endangered species would start to go extinct faster due to lack of resources.

I'm not trying to sound critical of any efforts. I just wanted to point out the disadvantages that should be taken into consideration in order to ensure animal life is not negatively impacted.

I'm going to be "the I can understand helping the animals that mankind has eliminated such as the rhinos but I'm not sure bringing back many extinct creatures is necessarily a good thing. We need to be very careful. Why would you bring back 1 mammoth, 1 dodo, dinosaurs etc or even a couple of them??? If they survived and procreated, what would we do with them? What kind of life would they have-- it would have to be in a zoo or contained area. You couldn't have mammoths and dodos just running wild. Would they survive in our climate now??? What would they eat?? Why bring them back to just probably die out again??? Just because we can do it... doesn't mean we should do it.
