WHAT IS THE ATHEIST EXPERIENCE?

The Atheist Experience is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.

The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.

We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

I think a large part of the success of this call was Forrest's respectful and enthusiastic manner. He's great at engaging with callers. Also big respect to Jeffrey for being publicly honest with himself and humble enough to admit he doesn't know enough yet. Bravo.

This is probably the best call I’ve ever heard on AXP. The caller was open-minded and listened, and both hosts explained everything in the exact right pace while distributing information in bitesize chunks. Absolutely wonderful segment that left me with a smile on my face. Well done, Shannon, Forrest and Jeffrey!

I didn’t know what to expect, but the color was respectful Shannon and Forest were wonderful as always. And I just love how forest is able to break down information, goes to show that he is a wonderful educator.

I will never understand the desperation with which some people insist that sex, gender, gender identity, and sexual orientation are simple little boxes, A and B, that everyone must fit in. It is almost neurotic with some people as if their world is threatened to admit that there are variations from what is typical. It seems to me that some folks hold to some simplistic standard, call it normal, and freak out about anything else. I get some of it is religious indoctrination, but maybe the rest stems from someone thinking that acceptance of others, somehow threatens the perception of themselves. As in, "If I accept gay people, maybe people will question my status." To me, lack of acceptance is a sign of personal insecurity.
