FILM DESCRIPTION:
Born to poor parents, Becky Sharp (Reese Witherspoon) has always aspired to be a member of England's upper classes. Leaving her boarding school and best friend, Amelia (Romola Garai), behind, Becky associates herself with the Crawleys, eventually falling in love with their son, Rawdon (James Purefoy). The marriage is happy at first, but deteriorates when Rawdon's fortune dwindles. Becky is then supported by the lecherous Marquess of Steyne (Gabriel Byrne), whose motives are less than pure.

This is representing a “ballet” choreographed by a white British man in the 1800s to entertain the king. It’s deliberately inaccurate, demonstrating the upper classes’ fascination with sensationalist Orientialism and serves as a metaphor for colonialism, in that it appropriates something without understanding or respect for entertainment and gain, including that of Reese Witherspoon’s character Becky.

Oh my. I never understood why Hollywood does not use real bellydancers. This is horrible and is not belly dance. I have known Hollywood to hire a real bellydancer to teach a few steps to actresses they hired. You can not learn bellydance in a few lessons. It takes at least a year to master beginning level.
