It is technically possible to strip that so-called evil web browser away from Windows. How you may ask? Check out the video.

Microsoft (probably): "We will hunt you down"

That's why it is called Internet **Explorer** ! Because Explorer relies on IE to work (on older versions of Windows) (that's not totally true but you get the joke right? RIGHT??)

IE was a major security risk, especially when they stopped updates for older versions of Windows. With IE removed, I wonder what the security is like in Windows XP.

The XP menu bar, windows, etc look exactly like what ive been running on a netbook for 14 years. Turning off the candy coated look was just clicking a box (choose windows classic at 3:51 in the video) and XP reverts to Windows 2000 look. Lots of offices ran it that way

How come you couldn’t backport an older version of the built-in Media Player such as 6.4? Would’ve probably been compatible with the ME version of Movie Maker, too

So basically, Windows XP without Internet Explorer is Windows 2000, with a few pieces that act like NT4? Not surprising, given how IE was integrated into the OS piecemeal after Windows 95, but the integration was much slower on the NT side. NT4 is basically the NT equivalent of Windows 95, but it got way more service packs, so there's no equivalent of 98 or ME. The next NT version was Windows 2000, which had some IE integration but a lot less than XP, being more of an evolution of NT4. Windows XP was all about taking the NT base and turning it into a consumer OS with a new coat of paint that's mostly written in HTML, sort of like what Windows 11 is doing with Windows 10... it's just a new coat of paint over Windows 10 that's trying to refresh things.

It's funny, most people remember Windows XP as the last good version of Windows. But as someone who was there at the time, I see it as the first bad version of Windows NT, with this desperate attempt to "modernize" the look with random HTML stuff, too much IE integration, product activation being required, and the beginning of moving away from the classic Windows theme. I think Microsoft doesn't really understand that Windows XP worked and people liked it because the NT foundations were solid, and has instead doubled down on the marketing stuff they think made it work. There's a reason why so many people wanted to use the NT versions of Windows at home back in the day after seeing them at work, and why so many even now keep trying to get Enterprise or Server editions for home use.

5:41 11 only has Internet Explorer if you've upgraded from 10, it's just there as a remenant of the 10 install. It doesn't actually use iexplore.exe for anything other than redirecting to Microsoft Edge.

Next remove IE or Edge from Win 11 as completely as you removed IE. Looking how Win 11 file explorer looks I am quite confident that it runs on chrome. Like the way tabs look are so chromeish in my opinion.
