i mainly gravel ride/offroad now and when navigating the spoken turn by turns is a game changer, means i can focus on the surface/controlling the bike and just listen to the unit telling you what way your going instead of just a beep, really enjoying mine.

Really well done! My 1050 should arrive in a few days....anxious to get it set up! The power guide looks very interesting.

Love to see the continued iterative improvement made to the software. Unfortunately, I can't recommend the 1050 due to some poor hardware decisions. Mainly- the inferior LCD versus historic trans-reflective screen - which happily work for days with the backlight turned OFF for multi-day rides. It would have been nice if Garmin could have provided us a trans-reflective version of the 1050 with solar charging. I would happily pay a bit more for that option. The older 1040 remains superior for anyone doing more serious touring.

Today my Garmin 1050 was suggesting me 3 hours base with the bike, my Garmin watch 30minutes base with the bike. Which one should I follow, why this difference? Thanks a lot

One of the most important things not discussed. Brightness & back light timers. When the 1050 times out the screen becomes black. basically usless.

I bought an Epix Pro and the HR monitor was broken from out of the box. It will take a while I go back to Garmin.

how to start Garmin when starting a ride. Just a ride not a course. Thanks

I got the unit. So far so good 👍. Two questions when training (I use TR if it matters): 1) the beeping notifications when ending/beginning intervals is not loud enough when training outside and I’m already on max volume. Anything I can do to change that? (Had edge 1030 plus and was perfect). 2) I keep changing the default Distance field below the workout graph to Elapsed Time but it goes back to Distance next time I use the unit. How do I fix that? Thanks in advance.

Did you use power guide at unbound and if so, how was it?

The biggest letdown of this one is that you can not input a mileage when you buy it.
Quite dumb, as someone who has made lots of miles on an earlier model can not input that into this nrw one.

Gamin is telling me that the new 1050 can not do strava segments while using a ride with gps route. They have stated that the strava segments will only populate when riding a free route. WTF? That would make them the only head unit on the market that works this way. I did not have this issue with the 520 unit (years ago) and it works perfectly on my hammerhead karoo 2. Do you have any details on this?

I've the 1040 and thought I'd try the 1050....I'm a casual rider but was intrigued by the bell and hazard bother....who in their right might wants to take their eye off the road to swipe and then press the bell icon....you'd be better off shouting. As for the Hazard feature too...maybe if people are several miles behind because those a few hundred yards won't receive the update in good time. I only use the 1000 series because of the larger screen, otherwise I'd use another brand. Too many basic issues with Garmin!

Is this still the same stupid rip-off as with the Edge 1040, where Garmin told me rather arrogantly that I had to buy the topo maps again I had already bought? The Edge 1040 was then immediately returned to the dealer. That's why I still have my Oregon 700.

Your video was informative and much appreciated. But please consider not using the meaningless phrase " go ahead" so often.

Showing empty datafields, empty strava features, didnt see map page for 1 second, what about climb pro page? - how many custom datafields i can add on that page? Two on 1040 isnt enough. Almost everything was showed when device was not actualy working (without screen capture, ...) Its is big minus for -Beyond the Basics Setup and Customization- video about device in that price. Im 1040 user and im very disappointed how strava/garmin compatibility not work as simply as on WAHOO devices. We all need to know how that look on that new screen on sun, in shadow, in mixed light, low light conditions... because contrast and visibility on 1040 really wasnt best on market. That new 1050 has more new features that you don't talk about than the old ones in this video.

The 1050 is too big, I wouldn't buy it.
