If you don’t mind me adding to this, dry your chain with compressed air if possible, then spray with WD-40, the WD isn’t a lubricant at this point, it’s a water displacer (WD, get it?) and will help you get every last drop of water out of the links. Then hit with compressed air again. Then use chain lube of preference, I’m a chain wax guy

Solid stuff! Don’t forget you gotta own a rear tire lift, they are worth every penny! My old katana had a center stand if I recall. Great bike

What stand is that? I need to order something. I’m guessing that just goes under the swing arm?

I did road cycling with a racing bike for years in the past. Now a decade later i am abotu to buy my first bike and i was wondering huh how do you clean it?

And its hilarious to me that its exactly the same even with the good old toothbrush that does the job just fine. Only difference is having to lift your MOtorcycle in that thing.

bro... try the maxima cleaner, expensive but it blows everything out and you just wipe down... save so much time and effort.

Noooo...no...no. You are all a bunch of mechanics telling a chemist he is wrong. All the chemist is saying is you guys are trying to use standard vs metric. Yes it will work...UNTIL IT DOESN'T. It is never the chemist whose chain snaps. Physics, chemistry and material science DO NOT LIE!!! Sux cuz I love this channel.

So it doesn't really need to be safe for rubber if you don't get the shit on the tire, ps the O rings in the chain are not rubber, they are made out of nitrile, nitrile is highly resistant to harsh chemical, that would be why mechanics use nitrile gloves

While you're doing this don't get your finger caught in between the sprocket and I may have done this

Is kerosene safe on nitrile o-ring chain?

using water is not a good idea. water can get trapped in the O rings. just a good chain cleaner, brush, microfiber rags and a lube is your best bet. The chain will last longer.

I find it disturbing that so many "experts" on YouTube recommend cleaning a sealed (o-ring or x-ring) chain with kerosene and many actually say it is recommended by the chain manufacturers. It is even more disturbing when a bike's owner's manual suggests kerosene. Not a single chain major manufacturer that I could find recommends kerosene for sealed chains and most specifically advise against using it. Kerosene will damage the o or x-rings.

From the RK website... "RK Chain recommends cleaning a sealed chain with only a mineral-based O ring safe chain cleaner. Do not use kerosene, mineral spirits, diesel fuel, brake cleaner, motor oil, or any caustic chemicals because that can damage the seals."

From the DID website... "D.I.D. does not recommend maintaining any drive chain with kerosene. Cleaning a sealed chain with kerosene would cause deformation of the seal ring and can oftentimes lead to rusting of a chain due to the removal of grease on the chain’s surface, which increases the risk of chain corruption and chain failure. It is highly likely that use of kerosene on a sealed drive chain will drastically decrease the chain's performance."
