Taiwan is Chinese territory, its current status the product of an unresolved civil war. As a consequence: 1. By any metric it's an internal affair, so in principle no outside interference is permissible. 2. Any outside interference constitutes a direct violation of Chinese territorial integrity. If you know anything about China, for this - & other reasons - you'd know no Chinese regime will, indeed cannot, give up Taiwan. Even elements (KMT/GMD) within Taiwan itself are opposed to any notion of an independent Taiwan.

Note: 'One China, different systems' is a compromise imposed on the PRC due to prevailing historical circumstances at that time. It's never been preferred Chines policy - especially for an indefinite period thereby creating a de facto permanent reality. But even on 'One China' the West is now crossing the line with obfuscation & drivel. Former Australian PM Kevin Rudd (an idiot) speaks about supporting 'One China', yet in the same breath talks about 'rights' of the Taiwanese people with regards to 'self determination' (same line as the USA's). How do you reconcile such inherently contradictory nonsense?

So let me repeat, Taiwan's current status is the product of an unresolved civil war. That's the critical factor. So historically Taiwan is neither analogous to the situation in the Ukraine or that pertaining to Turkey's ridiculous claims vis a vis Greece. In fact, if you support the notion of Taiwanese independence you only encourage Putin & Erdogan. Question: If Greece supports the violation of Chinese territorial integrity, then how do you object to Turkey's illegal occupation of Cyprus?
