In this video, KTVA Student Nohely Cisneros does a takedown of a great Steve Perry song, Separate Ways by Journey.

Journey - Separate Ways - Cover - Nohely Cisneros - Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy

Separate Ways by Journey was one of the first times the band started to do heavier music.

I remember seeing an article by Steve Perry saying that the band wanted to go heavier and that singing this type of music for him night after night was costing him his voice.

It can be difficult to get a singer like Steve Perry, with a Sam Cook sound, and encourage them to sing heavier stuff without a strong understanding of how much diaphragmatic support is involved, and what the pacing of the voice and correct vowel placement are when singing heavy.

My new student Nohely and I decided to take on this epic classic piece and make it even heavier!

I know Daughtry and Lzzy Hale recently covered this, and they made it heavier as well, and I think they did an awesome job! (It's funny, their video of Separate Ways has a very similar look to many of my KTVA students videos.)

With that said, we submit to you Separate Ways!

Let us know how she did :-)

Nohely is beautiful and talented. She did an outstanding job on her Journey cover.
I love this song "Separate Ways". Nohely has the attitude and the powerful voice to
take on all Hard Rock songs. Chris Daughtry and Lzzy Hale did a fantastic heavier cover of the Journey classic. They both killed it vocally on their cover. Steve Perry is one of the best vocalists in Rock, and he will be very proud of your student. What a great way to kick off a Friday! 👏👏🤘🤘

Ken tamplin produces real results. I have been practicing with his method for a while now. My daughter ysabela for the first time yesterday told me the other day singing has improved.

Interesting voice...very, very versatile. The three KTVA singers (Kayla, Gabriela, Nohely) singing "Man in the Box" demonstrates this. Gabriela was softer, Kayla was her masterful raspy self (best Janis covers, ever!), but Nohely pulled off both styles in the same song. Looking forward to hearing more of Noehly!

My god, what an awesome cover by Nohely coached by Ken. This is an awesome song but is difficult as well, and she looks like it is easy to sing and perform, not at all. Powerful voice and all the rockstar attitude makes this cover extraordinary

Ken's probably not going to read this but I have had his course and getting ready to start it. But, about 6 years ago I retired and got into making AVN's and my main character had a goal of becoming a rapper. It was a rebellion against his extremely wealthy father, and so he embarked on it. This meant I needed to learn how to rap "just a little" enough to get by in the novel that his. BUT, It is a "Visual" novel so people got to hear my amateur rapping, beats, rhythme's, flow and cadence and they loved it. For being someone doing it for the first time that is. So, they've been pushing me to "actually" start rapping and making music and after enough pushing I caved in. And this is why this channel is here. But now I have to REALLY study Ken's course, practice and get up to speed ASAP because my small group of fans are pushing for my first mixtape. So Ken, I'm REALLY hopeing you're course can teach me something I can pick up guickly. I want to rap my verses but actually change my music up for the chorus and sing that. So, I will keep you posted on how things are going. I even have 19 full songs written already. Making the beats and music is the difficult part. I actually couldn't afford you're course, so a follower of mine purchased if for me after asking if there was anything that would help me out "in my opinion." So, now the PRESSURE is on 4-SHO!!!
