using the 1-4 press break against a 2-2-1 full court press

4 catches the ball and dribbles up 5 feet. 2 goes up and 1 flashes right. 1s defender and both half court player will also be running right. This leaves 3 on the sideline wide open. Pass should be directly from 4 to 3.

If this plan works more than 2 or 3 times in a game, then your opponent doesn't;t know how to run their own press. You plan runs your players right into every trap the defense is trying to force them into.
But starting with that 1-4 look is the right starting pointfor the 1st pass. Althought there are other ways to beat it. We use a 1-4 look as our Press Breaker on the team I coach. But when I played we used a Double Stack in the middle and 2 players wide at 1/2 court as our opening look. Both approaches work well.
We have better ballhandlers on the team I Coach than the one I played on. We had more speed, size and athleticism on the team I played for. I don't know if that is too important on which one you should use as a Coach. Just pointing it out to help you decide how to attack a 2-2-1.
Most people will not Press either of the 2 teams I am talking about for very long because we usually destroy their Press. Good Luck.

4 has to be good under pressure because that’s exactly where the 2 2 1 is designed to trap at…

But #1 on defense job is to rotate to the middle on the first pass. So, it won’t be that easy.

A good coach is telling defender 1 and defender 4 to take away the middle. Especially if your 4 is running straight into our trap by defenders 2 and 3. You have defenders 1, 2 and 4 doing nothing in this example coach.

Question does the guy on the outside go to the basketball or does the in bounder make the pass to say 4 than 4 dribbles up the side of the court
