Borderlands 2 - Original vs UHD Textures Comparison (in 4K)

An Ultra HD texture package for Borderlands 2 has been released today. So I compare it with the original textures. I played both versions on the same PC with max settings. My system specs are: GTX 1070, Intel Xeon E3 1231 3.4 GHz, 16GB RAM, Samsung Evo 850 SSD. I had no FPS issues. The differences between the versions are hard to spot if you do not have a 4K monitor.

I notice a 1% increase in video quility, while noticing a 200% reduction in framerate.

To me I just think they’ve sharpened the outlines of everything and just made it more clearer, well than it already is, it’s a very small change tho

It's not a _huge_ difference, but the series' graphics and art style have aged better than other games, to begin with.


I can at least see that I need to spend some time revisiting my gun collection and gazing lovingly upon each of them. Shiny.

This is imo part of the reason borderlands 2 is still great today: even without the texture pack it doesn't look more than a couple years old at worst

the biggest improvement I can see is in the edge-line and AA implementation, looks much much better with the pack switched on, specifically around the front posts on the iron sights etc, or enemies at a medium distance, the edge lines aren't so horrendously thick anymore.

Usually its the guns and grenades that displays obvious texture issues when you inspect it

Tbh if you look about you can see a good improvement just in the sense of a nice touch up. Things just look much cleaner, edges are much sharper, much less anti aliasing jagged edges. It's subtle but very welcome.

btw: the whole southern shelf part is still my favorite. always looks beautiful at sun rising, in the dark with polar lights. nice catch and collect tasks, clean the cementry, and fighting to the top of the mountain...

It dosent look ae much of a difference when on a video. But when you play Borderlands 2 originally and compare it with the UHD textures its a very big difference.

You're able to tell the difference if you're watching on your 4K TV. I noticed a HUGE difference in texture quality just from looking at the character model at the title screen.

The anti-aliasing and finer sharper detail on the character models is what I notice.

I promise the difference is there if youre on console. I went from pixelated, compressed posters at sanctuarys spawn point, to being able to actually make out the text in stunning sharp quality
