You have to love GI humor! Yes, we feel that exhaustion. I'm surprised he was permitted a camera.
I love your work on all the shorts! Thank you!

How stunningly sad it is.... It keeps on coming like tides; just like the tides.

Respect. And thank you.
Some years ago I've found rusted M1 Garand clip on the side of the road near Malcesine (Garda lake, Italy). I keep it on my desk.

The greatest generation, of which my dad was also.

Covered in dirt and sweat, exhausted, and high morale.

Looks like a drawing done by Bill Mauldin, combat cartoonist in WW2.

I have this photo and this was taken near Bolo on the island at a WW1 memorial

Crazy the difference between that generation and today.

With all the battle dust and weary face he looks just like the statue.

Wow, he survived the meat grinder that was the Italian campaign, one lucky man.

I thought it was two GIs, I didn't realize it was a statue when I first saw the thumbnail 😊

So many of these men I learn about seem to have lived long lives after the war. I can’t help but wonder if the secret to a long life is to have a deep and genuine appreciation for life, which many who survived the war gained through perspective. There were certainly some who were dragged down by it instead though. God bless every man who served in that momentous event.

Does this memorial statue in Brolo still exist?

If he was in Sicily he most likely fought all the way to Germany over the next 3 years. God bless him and I thank him for his sacrifice and courage. I’m glad he got to live a long life as so many of his buddies didn’t.
