Soundgarden Spoonman with Lyrics in Description

Track 7 from their greatest hits compilation “Telephantasm” released in 2010, copyright A&M Records. This song was track 8 on their fourth and most successful album “Superunknown” released in 1994. Telephantasm achieved Platinum status immediately upon its release since one million CD’s were included with the video game “Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock.” Formed in 1984, and along with Pearl Jam, Nirvana & Alice in Chains, also from Seattle, Soundgarden pioneered a new sound of alternative rock that became known as “grunge.” They were the first grunge band to sign with a major record label, A&M Records, in 1988. In my opinion, Chris Cornell was the finest male rock vocalist of his generation. His tone and emotional delivery made him a legendary singer and he was also a talented writer. His songs “Black Hole Sun” and “Spoonman” from the 1994 album “Superunknown” both won Grammys and the album was nominated as Best Rock Album in 1995. The band broke up in 1997 but reunited in 2010 and released a new album, “King Animal” in 2012. Chris Cornell committed suicide in a Detroit hotel room at the age of 52 after a Soundgarden performance there on May 18, 2017. He was taking the anti-anxiety drug Ativan and may have over-medicated himself. Ativan is known to cause suicidal thoughts and actions. By all accounts he had everything to live for.
