The vise you have to see! Compound Angle Swivel!

Is this a cool vise or what? A compound double angle vise with a swivel base for the mill! A must see!

I found that exact vice in the bottom of a cabinet in the shop at work. Cleaned the years of grime and chips off of it in the parts washer and it came out great! Very cool vise, but I haven't tried machining with it, it takes forever to indicate!

I have that exact same vice! I need to use it tomorrow! It's a nightmare to I was hoping you had some magic way to indicate it in. but no!

Have you disassembled this vise? I have the same one which was quite used when I acquired it. In the base under the semicircular locking wedges I found very damaged springs in four shallow round drilled holes. My thought is that those were there to help the wedges release when the locking screws were loose. That said, I would have thought maybe there should be ball bearings or some other such bearing devise between the spring and the wedges. Can you share any light on this part of the vise construction?
