When you sew on the background fabric sew a second line a half inch away and you will have a half-squste triangle block to use in another project. A pillow maybe...

Wen you sew the 4” block to the corners, sew another line 1 half inch away and form a second bonus HST. Throw them in as bin of scraps for later. Thanks for sharing this jiffy block. <3

Maybe it’s just because I’m slightly OCD but it bothers me when people cut fabric without ironing it. 😋

Really like this pattern. Want to make it as a charity quilt
Needed to reduce the block size to finish at 8”. I think it will work just fine!
Thanks!

I agree with Judith. Saving those larger pieces wastes less fabric and give you lots of choices for scrappy quilts

?? I haven't been quilting long and still struggle with some of the math. If you get (4) 8.5 x 8.5 blocks from 1 FQ, and you're only using 14 FQ you would get 56 squares but the pattern say you need 110. What am I missing??

Hey Zach, This pattern is going on my do list. Think I'll use it on one of the Alaska donation quilts I'm working on. Really like the fabric you chose. It gives it a vintage charm look. You're a natural teacher Zach! 💖

I have ugly charm squares that I bought on sale. Now I know what to do with them. Thank you. The only thing I'd do when using the bigger sizes is sew another line 1/2" away and keep those smaller half-square triangles for another project. Or I could just sew them together and use them on the backing of the quilt. Cool!

I like the quilt, thank you for sharing. I would strongly encourage you to press before you cut and after you sew. This would give you a more accurate block. Keep us the good work.

Hey ya know it’s a lot easier to do all that if you iron the pieces as you go.I used to do like you do, but when you quilt without steaming the
seams, your quilt doesn’t come out without bunched up backing. But I’m glad more guys are getting into quilting and sewing.
