A reading of my own story, Who is the Dream Visitor?
I was originally going to do a movie review as my Halloween special, but technical difficulties made that impossible.
STORY:
Many people around the world have reported encounters with a mysterious hooded figure in their dreams, giving the entity the name ‘The Dream Visitor’. The name, age, height, gender and nationality of this figure are unknown; the only tangible detail about the figure is its robes, which are black with red outlines, and 2 glowing blue eyes, though no face is discernible.
The rate at which the figure appears in people’s dreams seems to be random, with no clear pattern detected. No connection between the dreams visited by the hooded figure has been found, with reports from nightmares, lucid dreams, etc. The same can be said for people whose dreams are visited; there are no obvious similarities between the individuals in terms of age, occupation/lack thereof, religion/lack thereof, gender, race, country of birth, residence, income, social status, mental/physical state, blood type, etc. The intent and purpose of the hooded figure is unknown. An investigation is ongoing to find any connection between the dreams and individuals visited by the figure.
Some individuals have attempted contact with the figure in their dreams to mixed results; the figure will either disappear, remain silent, provide vague answers, or the individual will wake up upon asking their question. Some recorded replies from the figure to the question, “who are you?” include:
“No more than you are.”
“Look in the shadows.”
“I am everything, and I am nothing.”
“I am where the sky ends.”
To date, no evidence of malice intent or tampering with dreams has been found. Often, the Dream Visitor is either the most vivid memory from a dream or the only memory from a dream. The possibility of being visited by the figure but having no memory of such has been considered and yet to be debunked. No sign of psychological damage or trauma has ever been found in individuals after the figure appeared in their dreams, though most have developed mild to severe insomnia.
Calculations conclude that chances of being visited by the figure in your dreams are 1 in 1,000, and those visited by the figure have never reported seeing it in their dreams again. At the time of writing, there are a total of 153 individuals all over the world who have reported seeing the visitor in their dreams.
On March 9, 1998, a middle aged man who was visited by the figure years ago reported seeing it again in public while walking through the streets of Chicago. According to this individual, he came to a stop at a traffic light. When he turned around, he saw something move in the shadows of an alleyway between 2 buildings roughly 50 feet behind him. The individual denied getting a good look at the figure, as the traffic light turned green only a few seconds after he spotted it. It is still debated whether or not what the man witnessed was actually the Dream Visitor.
The first reported sighting of the Dream Visitor was in 1973, when a young girl recounted her experience with the figure in her dream she had the night before to her mother. The girl’s mother dismissed the claims as just a dream, until 2 years later, when the mother was visited by the same figure. Over time, more people came out, reporting they have been visited by the figure. An official investigation started in 1979 and is ongoing to this day.
Psychologists, dream analysers, paranormal investigators, scientist and many more are still investigating the Dream Visitor. No updates have been made in 15 years.
