Growing up there was a major heroin problem in my city that eventually claimed my childhood best friend. He started smoking and always insisted he was fine and that he could handle it. He had a messy home life and bad grades so I didn't think it was my place to tell him how to cope. Of course it just made him worse and worse until he became a shadow of his former self; a borderline delirious hobo. We rescued him from some disgusting trap houses but he always found his way back. The last thing he said about his addiction was how he didn't care if he died as long he didn't have to live with the pain he carried inside. After that he went off the grid and that was over 6 years ago, no one has seen hide nor hair of him. There have been some rumours of him being spotted wandering the streets of an adjacent town, dishevelled and rambling to himself but that's all I know. I've looked around for his old hangouts but there is nothing left of them, he chased the dragon to the next big hotspot.

So this one goes out to you Dan, I don't know where you are but I hope you can find a light in the tunnel and stop smoking before it's too late.
