When playing "best on best" Russia hasn't beaten Canada, in a final, since the 1981 Canada Cup.These guys for Canada are from teams that didn't make the playoffs in the NHL.Great to see Kharlamov though he was great in 72.

It is shocking and baffling that the same Soviet Union Nation made up of mostly the same CSKA Moscow Players that completely dominated the NHL Team in Games 2 and 3 of the Challenge Cup and dominated again in the 1979 World Hockey Championship less than a year later lost 4-2 against the Montreal Canadiens were blown out 6-1 against the Buffalo Sabres and lost 4-3 against a United States College Amateur Team after blowing out the same United States College Amateur Team 10-3 about 10 Days before the 4-3 loss. I wonder if Tikhonov would have kept the Best Goaltender in the World Tretiak in Net for the 2nd and 3rd Periods how would the USA vs Soviet Union Game turn out? It's impossible to say definitively how the game would have turned out, but keeping Vladislav Tretiak in net for the entire game against the USA in the 1980 Winter Olympics would have likely improved the Soviet Union's chances of winning. While Vladimir Myshkin, the backup, wasn't a bad goalie, Tretiak was considered the best in the world and his sudden removal after two goals allowed in the second period seemed to rattle the Soviet team.
Here's why keeping Tretiak might have changed the outcome:
Experience and Calmness:
Tretiak's experience and calm demeanor on the ice could have helped the Soviet team weather the American comeback and potentially regain control of the game.
Psychological Impact:
Removing the best goalie in the world, even if he allowed a couple of soft goals, can have a significant psychological impact on the team. The Soviet players might have been thrown off by the change and struggled to regain their composure.
Solid Goaltending:
While Myshkin was a capable backup, Tretiak was on another level. He had a history of stellar performances in crucial games and might have made the saves needed to hold the lead.
