This is something the healthygamergg channel talked about. There was a study where people were given an impossible maze puzzle, but while waiting, a plate of sweets was left on the table and they were asked not to eat it. The group without the sweets attempted the maze longer before giving up, proving that "discipline" in this example is a finite resource that will negatively affect your willpower to complete unrelated tasks.

For those interested, there’s also a device called Brick that essentially turns your existing smart phone into a dumb phone. And the only way to unbrick it is to physically tap the brick.
I keep my brick in the basement so I have to put intentional effort by going all the way down there to unbrick it which means I will almost always just not do it and end up abstaining from scrolling etc.

Actually, yeah. I got a dumbphone for the same thing, but after a while I really started needing more smart features so what I did was put most of the things I would have done on my phone on to an iPad which meant when I wanted to use a screen, I could not just reach into my pocket. I had to get my iPad. This meant that I only ever needed to do essential stuff on my phone and the rest was on my ipad
