Texas’ power grid operator is asking Texans to conserve power Monday amid a record-breaking heat wave that has led to unprecedented amounts of energy demand, warning that rolling blackouts are possible as much of the state is projected to reach temperatures 100 degrees and higher this week.

Never had this problem before. Lived in Texas 57 years. We've had summers get hotter than this. Power plant 5 miles from me shut down about 10 years ago. Was bought by another company that was in the process of converting it from natural gas to coal. It was on the news about the conversion. A few years later the whole plant was torn down. Sounds like a lack of planning with all the new people moving to Texas.

Hooray for inadequate, overstressed electrical grids, high energy costs and all that oh so useful wind power providing grossly inadequate power generation. Mission accomplished Democrats! Well done everyone! /sarcasm off

What a wonderful reminder on our current energy crisis, and heat streaks happening yearly. I hope Abbott can muscle up relief for Texans.

And this is what I've been talking about with our upcoming governors race constituents. Texans are forced to STAY ON THE GRID and not allowed to become independent in their energy needs. We have the means, as of right now, to go completely off the grid. 100% independent, not relying on the grid to power our home, but Texas has forced those of us already on the grid with accepting complete utility services they have or staying connected with the grid and having solar attached but still paying the utility company a monthly service fee as well as paying for the solar components monthly (if financing) and you're still paying 350+ monthly. No one wants to touch or even address that concern and topic because money rules it all. Not green energy. Not care for the planet. Money. As long as they can still get that 350+ a month from their indentured home owners...that's all they're willing to talk about. Mention self reliability and independence and they're silent. As long as you're doing new construction, you can choose to be off grid. Already have had services, you're stuck for life!
