I remember this song from his 68 comeback special, ,,it hurts me. ELVIS Presley really had a compassion ate a Emotional voice. Nobody did it like my Mr Songman Elvis.

Hard to believe it has now been 50 years, and a million tears since the King made is spectacular comeback.  Of course, Elvis did everything with a flair and charisma that is unmatched, and never will be.  I remember watching that special with my Dad.  This is one of my favorites from that show.  RIP Elvis!

The two versions of this song is an example of how Elvis voice changed during his career. By the end of his movies, I always felt that his voice became "rougher", which would last until his Vegas-years. I always wondered what specifically changed, because he sort of lost that "softness" to his voice prior to the '68 special. It's almost like it sank a bit, sort of like what the producers of Walk The Line said about Joaquin Phoenix' "drop" during his recordings of the Cash-songs. I'm a sucker for all of his "phases", but I always fall back to that "middle stage" during his movie years. He was so crisp and clear, with full control of both high's and low's back then. And then prior to the 60's, he was different again. Maybe that's what's so magical about the guy.
