Thats totally not brown sugar. Just buy brown sugar at the store.... Brown sugar comes from the process of making sugar from the sugar cane. You make brown sugar by evaporating the water from the sugar cane juice. Here in Brazil we have sevaral peoducts that come from it
- You begin with sugar cane juice which is an amazing and nutritious juice
- after boiling it you get melado which you could use to make rapadura. Rapadura is a hard block of unprocessed brown sugar
- you could keep processing it to get brown sugar, which is much richer in flavor than white sugar, has much more nutrients and has much more water in it

From sugar cane you could also brew it to produce cachaça which is an alcoholic bevarage .

But for sure what you did looks far from brown sugar, its white sugar with melases
